It seems that we got a better deal booking at the last minute. Location is easy to find next to the cathedral (wish is worth visiting). We got a room with a terrible view initially, but my husband fell in the shower because of the bar being loose and they gave us a balcony room in the front which was much better. It was pretty spacious and the decor was appropriate for the hotel. It had some character. Elevators made it easy to drag luggage around. Staff were very responsive when we had an issue.

Room Tip: Ask for one toward the front.

Our car rental booked us a room for one night in this hotel after the oil deposit in our rental car exploded while we were driving on a highway from Madrid to Oporto in July 2009. Shaken and disturbed as we were from the incident, the hotel was a mighty pleasant surprise and a perfect ending to an exhausting day. Its an honest little hotel in a very old building, but rooms were modern with just the right touch of antiquity. The location was also excellent - right in the middle of the charming historical center of CR. Freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast was a nice touch too. The bed was comfortable and we could sleep soundly without any disturbances. There is parking in front of the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone but it is probably best for couples without little children (since it has this romantic feel about it).

Short walk from the bus station (don't need a taxi but we didn't have a map), Clean, spacious rooms. Agree with previous reviewers, walls are a bit thin and noise travels from the restaurant downstairs but it didn't bother us at night. Air-con didn't cool room but I think a lot of European air-cons are only set to 'warm' and you can't make them cool. We faced the courtyard which doesn't give you a lot of breeze but with the windows open at night and it being fairly cool weather, it was pleasant enough. Not sure what these rooms would be like in the middle of summer. At 1/3 of the price of the Parador and having a better location (next to the cathedral) I'd rather stay here. The restaurant is a big surprise too. Very cheap and large, good quality meals - not the normal slop you get at a lot of places for menu of the day.

What a little gem this hotel is, after a long drive heading towards Portugal we make this city our stopping point as a friendly welcome always awaits. There is a small bar and seating area in the reception where one can take tapas and a refreshing drink before the restaurant opens in the evening. Our room including the bathroom was spotless .
The restaurant which opens at 8.30.pm has an all inclusive menu as well as a la carte and can be recommended. It is a pleasure to wander the narrow streets and admire the buildings and palaces and then take a seat in the cafes of the Plaza Major.
The only criticism of the hotel is of soundproofing between the rooms almost non existent I am afraid.
