Meson Diego is located on the main square in the town, they have inside restaurant space as well as an outdoor terrace. We have been to this restaurant bar many many times - we have found it to be consistently excellent. They do a great 'menu del dia' - a 3 course lunchtime meal including salad, bread and a drink for 8 euros. It is fantastic quality, usually a choice of a couple of meat dishes or a fish dish. Service is relatively fast for a rural Spanish town, the people are always friendly.
This is the place where you stop for a coffee or a drink and a tapa. Centrally located in the heart of Alhama, Meson Diego is a family run business who delivers good service and quality at very reasonable prices.
We had been to this bar once for a few drinks the previous night, and it had been recommended in book guides for food. I don't know if they specialise in meat dishes, but both our main courses were so overcooked. The swordfish was dry and the squid rings were so tough it was a sea food phobe's worst nightmare (but we love seafood). The only redeeming features were the stewed vegetables that came with the mains, and our starter of grilled prawns (large, fresh and tasty)
Hola, Mesón de Diego a cambiado de propietarios y estaríamos encantados de servirle nuevamente si vuelve a visitar Alhama para poder mejorar su experiencia en el restaurante y nos pueda votar nuevamente de forma positiva. Te esperamos...
Gracias
We had beer & tapas a number of times here plus one evening meal. Tapas comes free with every drink, it's varied and tasty.
The meal we had in the dining area was OK but my pork fillet was much too over done although my wife's choice, grilled rabbit, was fine and came as half a rabbit split lengthways including the head. Look out for the menu translations.
Pleasant service and popular with local people. Mason Diego is fine for beers and tapas.
