“don't stay here”
Reviewed March 7, 2010

We booked into Mirra Sierra via the internet and were attracted by the nice views on the photo gallery on the site. When we arrived the receptionist was extremely grumpy. Our room looked onto a construction site. The room appeared clean but there was human hair in the bed. We asked to be moved and the response was very unfriendly. Thankfully we walked up the town and found Casa Rural (an amazing B&B, with nicer rooms, fab breakfast, unbeatable views and better value than Mirra Sierra). We checked out of Mirra Sierra only an hour after arriving and were charged 30euros. The receptionist was very angry that we were leaving the hotel to go somewhere better!!! I would not recommend this hotel - it's got no character, grumpy receptionist, plain rooms and views of concrete and nothing else!!

When we realised that this hotel was actually 40 odd km from Cazorla, up the narrowest windiest road ever, my heart sank. I was actually about to turn around and go back to the Parador, however I am SO glad we didn't! The hotel is an old coaching inn on the side of the road, with some covered parking opposite. It has a nice old-fashioned reception area, with a big fireplace and really welcoming staff! There is a bar and a restaurant, a terrace and a lovely pool area.
The room was small and perhaps a little tired, but it had everything we needed - fridge, storage, tv, and nice bed - and the bathroom was absolutely fine.
It is perfectly located for walking in the Cazorla National Park ( although don't try the 7 hour one that we did - it took 9 hrs! ) and for all the other activities available there.
However, the nicest thing about this hotel is the people - the family that run it are so friendly, putting up with our dodgy Spanish, and trying their hardest to make us feel as welcome as possible.
The food there was also a highlight of the stay - the first night we just had the raciones from the bar - queso ovejo and surtido de embutidos - fabulous local food. The next night after the walk from hell, we had the full works - and the steaks were the best we have eaten in years. And the jug of local red wine at 3.50 euros(!) was amazing value!
Breakfast was tosados with jam or olive oil, great coffee and freshly squeezed juice, although there were also eggs should you have wanted them.
The cost of the room, including breakfast, was 40 euros!
And for a side show - we were visited in the car park by two friendly-ish wild boars!
We loved the feel of this place, and we will go back.

Quiet area. Nothing much to do.
Simple buffet breakfast.
Big twin room.
Nice bathroom amenities.
Driving to it, you will be able to see a part of Sierra Nevada. However, there is no direct route from the hotel to SN. You have to drive back for several km's.

  • Liked — The view.
  • Disliked — Hole and stain on the ceiling of my room.
