Yao In Chan Hotel
Ranked #2 of 47 Amphawa B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 15, 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for three nights to get away from the Bangkok mob currently terrorising the city under the guise of reform action. You need a car to get there really but it is well worth the trip.

Beautiful gardens right by the river. Spacious rooms with all mod cons. Only meal is breakfast.

Lovely and helpful staff.

Very nice Thai waterfront restaurant next door.

Not far to the various floating markets in the area. Try the Mae Klong market by boat where the vendors are on land as well as boats. But it shuts before 11am.

Amphawa Floating market is only open on weekends. But well worth a visit. Hire a long tail boat for a river "cruise". It is best in the afternoon if you like lots of crowds and activity.

We stayed for three nights with our 5 month old baby and loved our stay! The husband and wife who won the property and lovely and so hospitable - they made us feel very welcome and we're extremely helpful. The staff (three ladies in particular) were amazing with my daughter and played and held her which was very useful during breakfast. The rooms were nicely decorated and very comfortable. My only comment about the bathroom was that there was no conditioner (minor point!) - the fridge was stocked with water And coke (for free). We had a room on the water and loved waking to the pond view. It is possible to see fireflies by the river - the owner helpfully pointed them out to us one evening. The pool is lovely and has lights should you wish to swim in the evening. The owner also organised for us to have massages each day we were there - for £5 for 1 hr someone came to the property - we had our massages in an outside area which was lovely! There is no restaurant on site however the owners can arrange for takeaways to be delivered which is very useful. For food we went out each evening - the amphawa trade market (inside) is ok if you want to buy cheap items however I would not recommend it for food. If you want to eat go to one of the food stalls around the outside of the market - our tuk tuk driver (who was arranged through the hotel) was amazing and took us wherever we wanted to go and even made excellent suggestions for food (eg pad Thai). He also waited for us and then collected us. We used him both nights. The amphawa floating market is worth going to - we had a great dinner in one of the restaurants and a nice boat trip through the river. Overall we loved our stay and will return - the owners are very friendly and go out of their way to help. I even came home with a bottle of the lyche drink they prepare for guests. We were also lucky enough to sample of the sons amazing cooking (he is a trained chef!) thank you for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: I would choose a room in the garden next time as I was a little concerned with Mosquitos being on th...

This place is like a small heaven near the river.
The rooms around the pond are really beautiful.
The pool is nice and large, open till midnight and just along the river.
The place is 10 min drive with tuk-tuk to amphawa floating market or Samut Songkhram market.

Overall, every single detail is made with good taste, they even serve homegrown salad and homemade jam for breakfast.

Even it might seem a bit expensive for rural Thailand, this is good value for money if you are looking for a calm, secluded place. Would definitely recommend it.

The room is very clean and comfortable. The host is kind and helpful. Specially, the breakfast was very delicious! It's a very good place to have a relaxing vacation (very quite) in Amphawa! Although the location is a bit far from the floating market, the hotel can call a tuk-tuk for you (around 80-100 Baht).

Yao In Chan greets you with a lovely combination of greenery and pools by the Mekong river. The hotel is new and well designed. It is run by a lovely Thai family and the outside has a garden feel but you can still have a very private stay. Great rooms and there is also a shaded area to sit by the pool. Service is excellent and the breakfast is abundant. We really enjoyed our two nights there and even saw fireflies lighting up one of the trees like it was christmas.
The hotel is not quite next to Amphawa market but it doesn't take long to get there by Tuktuk which is a good experience and very cheap Good break from Bangkok.

We just returned from a 1 night stay at Yao In Chan and I was compelled to write a review because of the great experience we had. The service we received from the staff was friendly and warm and the owners showed great care for the guests. The room was very well appointed and immaculately clean. Stepping into the bathroom was like leaving rural Thailand and into a 4 star property in a cosmopolitan city somewhere in Europe/N. America. The breakfast definitely didn't disappoint either. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the fresh vegetables grown on site made for a delicious side salad. The kao tom (boiled rice) was as good as I have ever had and if a restaurant sold it, I would buy it. I wouldn't hesitate booking a room at Yao In Chan if you are planning a trip to Amphawa.

We relaxed after busy Bangkok and enjoyed the garden and the pool. Our kids were playing in the pool. There is a nice riverside restaurant. Basic, local but excellent. Just a 10 min walk away. We also hired a boat for a tour to Amphawa market and and seeing the fireflies. Another highlight was the local market in Samut Sonkhram at the railway and train arriving around 9 am. Great to see how all sellers move the goods away to give way to the train.
The landlord was most helpful in organizing our boat trip and great in answering all our questions. He even organized lunch and fruits for us although he is normally just catering for breakfast.
We enjoyed our short break.
