What an experience visiting Amphawa, famous for its weekend floating market, and to stay along the riverbank of Amphawa canal. The hotel looks like a woody beach home getaway, as most of its exterior were wood finishing. Bedroom and bathroom were decent, toiletries and towels were provided. A/C however took awhile to cool us down (pretty warm and humid during my visit). However, the internet connection was rather limited and it may be because our room as at the corner end. As it is located along the riverbank, there were plenty of stores selling antiques, handicrafts, clothings and food stuff. Do try the seafood along the riverbanks to experience eating fresh grilled seafood while seating down on low plastic stools. As an alternative, vendors across the bridge to the night market sell similar seafood at a slightly lower price. There are plenty of street food to venture as well. Later in the evening, you can also arrange to hop on a boat ride to see fireflies (60THB p/head). There are couple of waterholes along the riverbanks with live bands where you can have sippin' and chillin' time to unwind.
The very next morning at 6am, we were up to give offerings/alms to the monks (which we had earlier arranged with the staff upon check-in, a set cost 35THB). It was such bliss moment having to offer alms to monks and was given blessing in return. Breakfast was served at 7am and there was a wide array of choices from congee, fried rice, toast, fruits, coffee/tea/soy/juices. Soon after, we took a songthaew outside the main entrance of the hotel to visit the Maeklong Railway Market (8THB p/head). After checking out, we had ice milk teas at Coffee Heritage since they have given us coupons.
In short, this hotel is definitely recommended for visitors who want to experience of living along the riverbank where the floating market is and a peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle in the city. The staffs were helpful and friendly as well.
Getting here from Bangkok is easy. For thrifty travellers, simply head to Victory Monument BTS Station, head out to Exit 4, walk towards the minivan station and purchase ticket to Amphawa (80THB p/head). You can purchase your return ticket once you reach Amphawa. Do visit Amphawa before it gets too overly commercialised.
