Description: Situated in the historic village of Morpeth, at the home of Morpeth Sourdough bakery, this bistro is relaxed and homely. Great fresh food by the Arnott's and a regional & international wine list to suit the most particular wine buff. Dine in the old shop front, on the street front or on the large, outdoor veradah set above the village and watch the world go by. All food is made and baked in-house and of course, we use only Morpeth Sourdough.

We've been to the Bakehouse on at least 4 previous occasions and generally enjoyed the food and atmosphere. This latest experience was, however rather disappointing. An entree of Kingfish was bland and at $24 there was very little on the plate to justify this price. Lamb rump was equally unimpressive. We ordered a riesling (one of only a handful of whites on offer and well over $45). It was extremely sweet and quite offensive (more a traminer / desert style wine) with an entree/main meal. I asked the waiter to taste it himself however he simply gave me an odd look (another complaining customer?) and made no comment. While the service was attentive, the staff lacked energy and a smile was in very short supply. No music to cut a very quiet and subdued dining experience on the verandah despite it being well occupied by other diners. All done in an hour and a half (didn't bother with dessert) and $200 + not well spent.

Thank-you for taking the time to provide feedback on your most recent experience with us. Disappointing as the review is, it is more disappointing that we were not provided the opportunity to rectify these issues as they occurred, or perhaps in the week or two following your visit, particularly given that all indications are that you know this not to be a typical experience at Arnott's.
As we have not offered a Kingfish entree either on our a la carte or as special in the last twelve months, I am unable to offer any comment. With regards to the lamb, had your dissatisfaction with this dish been bought to our attention we would have gladly offered a replacement dish at no charge.
The Riesling you ordered ($50) from a selection of white wines (no less than eighteen in number) was made in a Old World style and is recognised by many as a wonderful expression of such a style; I am sorry it offended you. Like many restaurants of a similar calibre, assistance is available to help you make an informed beverage selection. The indifference you experienced when commenting on the wine to the staff is not in-line with our service practices and will be followed up, thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Should you wish to dine with us again, please make yourself known to me so I can ensure that your next experience is a much more enjoyable one- the kind for which we are renown.
Yours sincerely,
Joshua Anlezark

Visited this restrauant after making a reservation five minutes before hand at 8pm. They fitted us in, this was a father - daughter dinner. The food was excellent and the service very attentive. This is the third visit and it's always been the same. We sat inside, but on a beautiful evening ask for the outside verandah which overlooks Morpeths main street.

Creative food, great atmosphere and service. Arnotts restaurant represents fine food, I suggest be open minded, you will be delighted. Even being wine savvy, I requested recommendations for matching food with the wine and was the highlight of the evening and experience.

On our 24th wedding anniversary went to the Bakehouse. Everything was great. From the service, the venue and especially the food. You could taste the freshness. Prices a little high but well worth it. Definately the No. 1 restaurant in Maitland. My wife is still talking about it.

The food & service was exceptional and we only had to walk across the street from our B&B. Recommend to all our friends and would definitely go again.
