“WOW. What a surprise”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

My husband and I wanted to go for lunch to their sister restaurant Black Creek Farm but due to all the rain the road to it was closed so here we were at Leaves & Fishes and -by the end of our lunch - how happy were we

Ambience Casually wonderful
Service Engagingly friendly
Food Outstanding

We asked for suggestions for all the 3 courses and went with them, sharing each course, so in effect had a degustation menu. It was heaven! Best meal we ate at the Valley. Also, upon asking, the proprietors were very gracious and give us lots of tips about the Hunter Valley and wineries for which we are grateful and which goes above and beyond what is expected. If there is one suggestion I could make it would be to offer complimentary bread.
Hopefully, it will just be as wonderful an experience next time we're up at the Hunter and when we hope also to visit their sister restaurant.

It's great to hear that you were able to enjoy Leaves & Fishes Lovedale in light of the recent flooding at Leaves & Fishes Black Creek Farm. We hope that you will be able to enjoy both venues on your next visit to Hunter Wine Country. We have taken your feedback and now provide amuse bouche with our dinner service and will consider a small bread offering in the future. We are enthusiastic about our winery partners and all the more happy to dispense advice about wineries, produce, accommodation and attractions to our guests. This makes Leaves & Fishes a must-visit location for your stay in the Hunter and we hope to see you again on your next return visit.

“Alluring location for a languid lunch!”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

This delightful restaurant had come highly recommended and I can honestly say that the praise was well deserved.

The place has a unique atmosphere. It has an understated, opulent, verdant south-east Asian feel with water and vegetation all around. The tables and furnishings echo the exotic ambience.

The service was attentive with members of staff genuinely happy to discuss ingredients and produce with our small group.

Our party shared some deliciously cooked and presented entrees which were a joy to taste and share. The Barramundi pie was a triumph.

There is an extensive wine list that includes some fine choices of the best of the Hunter Valley.

We loved the company of your group and am glad that you also enjoyed our venue. We work hard to provide a comfortable environment and unique ambience. Our customers continue to enjoy the highlights of our menu including the Barramundi Pie and Crispy-Skin Duck along with our wine list devoted to Hunter-grown and -produced wine. We look forward to your return visit to Leaves & Fishes Lovedale when you are next in Australia.

“Very Good Food and Friendly Service”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

We called in for lunch, having made a reservation earlier. We were welcomed and immediately led to our very comfortable table by the efficient staff. The restaurant has wonderful ambience, with open sides and a setting over a large fish pond surrounded by lush greenery.

The staff explained the menu dishes and the three of us decided that we would share 3 starters and a main course. Our choice of oysters prepared three ways, crispy spring rolls, an Asian pork and scallop dish and a truffled leek and barramundi pie provided the perfect light lunch. We enjoyed all the dishes and were particularly pleased with the accompanying fresh leaves and herbs, which gave a wonderful extra flavour dimension. The helpful staff kept going to the kitchen to check with the chef when we asked what the herbs were with each of the dishes.

A bottle of local crisp white wine was a perfect foil for the menu we selected. A beautiful Hunter Valley lunch.

We're happy that you were able to enjoy your light lunch with us. Many of our customers also agree with your selection: the San Choy Bow and Barramundi Pie being the favourites. We hope that we will be able to welcome you again soon with our new menu and wine list on your return visit to Australia.

“Stodge and not exciting”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Had dinner there and the atmoshere seemed good in a good setting. The menu though was a let down. Read better than it presented and was basically stodge.
Set number of courses and they had run out of quite a few things and it wasn't late in the night. A narrow selection of overpriced wine wasn't enthralling.
Overall there is a lot better out there. Not up to Hunter Valley standards IMHO.

We invest a lot of time into ensuring that our venue is casual and inviting for all our guests so thank-you for your kind words. I apologise that the variety of food and wine was not available during your dining session. We warmly encourage you to dine with us again during the busy Easter period and reconsider your assessment. Leaves & Fishes Lovedale Restaurant is still one of the longest trading restaurants in the Hunter Valley Wine Country area and continues to better the atmosphere and service that people can expect when dining in the area.

“The Most Beautiful Food and Surrounds”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

WE arrived for a very late lunch. The food is amongst the best I have ever had. Reasonable price for two courses for that standard of food. We loved our lunch and would have loved a glass of wine with it.....but $14 for one glass is just a bit outrageous...so we had water and went home and one of our lovely ones we had bought at one of the many wonderful wineries. Service was outstanding.

It's wonderful to hear your high praise for our food and service. Of course our location means you have several wines to choose from within Hunter Valley Wine Country. We believe that our prices on our wine list are reasonable as we have premium Hunter wines on the list: we buy on quality not on lowest cost to our business. We hope to see you soon at Leaves & Fishes Lovedale Restaurant where you might share a bottle of premium Hunter wine over our upcoming winter menu.
