“Feels like you are staying out of the city.”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

If you want a slightly more American feel to your stay while in the Copper Canyon area, the Creel Best Western will help achieve that. Our unit was near the back of the property and it did not feel like we were close to the center of town - nice landscaping, plenty of trees. The location made it very easy to walk to the local restaurants and shops. They were at the train station to meet us when we arrived and provided transportation back to the motel.
While there was a mix-up on a private tour that we arranged, the manager (Caesar) took time from his schedule to act as our guide since no other English speaking guide was available. We greatly appreciated this kindness.
The bed was very comfortable and the room reminded us of a mountain lodge from the knotty pine on the walls. My only complaint would be the shower head in the bathroom (I find these occasionally in motels, the kind that spread out the water too much which makes it hard to rinse one's hair) and the pedestal sink (which has no place to put much of anything). However, there is a table by the sink that provides needed space for personal items.

Room Tip: Rooms near the back of the property are slightly more quiet. If you stay over on a weekend, there i...

Comfortable beds, large, cozy rooms, inviting reception area with dining room and bar (more improvements planned!), Mexican music every evening, camaradie and welcoming atmosphere all around. I can't say enough about how great this place was after a long day of traveling, and how much it added to our group's overall experience of the Copper Canyon tour. The owner and his wife and sons gave us personal attention and were hospitable in every way possible. We stayed two different nights - good breakfast both times, and our one evening meal was fine too.

We spent 7 nights going through Copper Canyon area and this was one of the top 2 places. Seven couples had arranged for the week together. The hotel rooms were very clean and the fireplaces added a nice ambiance plus warmed us. In the morning there was frost of the cars, so this was a welcomed addition to the room.
We ate nearly every meal in the hotel, sometimes after a long day out exploring. The staff was wonderful. Cara took care of us and accommodated our needs. Food was good. When we gathered to leave, the staff gathered at the entrance and waved yellow napkins and yelling "gracias, buen viaje"
The bar was a great gathering spot for us.
When we make a return trip, all 14 of us said we would again stay here.

Beware of the service at this hotel. We stayed here in January 2013. The room were comfortable, clean and good size. The lobby and restaurant were attractive. But beyond that, our one night stay there was horrible. I booked and prepaid the room through Orbitz one month before. We had no problem registering at the hotel. A few hours later, we stopped by the front desk and the clerk said there was a problem running payment for the room using the Amex we gave here. Strange, since the room was prepaid using a Mastercard and we never gave her Amex information. She could look into the problem no further because the main office of the hotel in Chihuahua were closed. The night we checked in I also contacted Orbitz. Once again they faxed and emailed the hotel. Apparently all confirmation go to the hotel's main office hundred of miles away. The next morning, the manage of the hotel insisted we pay again. We showed him two Orbitz confirmation, but he stilled insisted on another payment. We finally just let for our day tour and let they sort it out on their own. We also ate at the hotel that night. Apparently, there weren't enough patron to justify opening the dining room so we had to eat in the bar area. Food was adequate, but service was poor. Our party felt like we were disturbing the employment. On our week long Copper Canyon trip, the service workers we encounter were warm and friendly. But not at this Best Western Hotel. One word of advise, stay somewhere else. The room might not be as nice, but I don't see how the service could be any worse.

As others have said, the rooms are cozy (but not small) with the gas fireplace/heater and the beds are comfy. Plenty of hot water. The food was fine. We ate breakfast there twice and dinner once. Breakfast service was slow in an almost empty dining room. We did pizza for dinner as a change and found it quite good.

Although Creel wasn't our favorite stop on our week-long Copper Canyon trip, the hotel was warm and cozy with a lodge-like feel. As the town of Creel is at a fairly high elevation, it was definitely chilly, so the "faux" wood stove was most appreciated. I was disappointed that the jacuzzi in the spa room was broken, because it would have been nice to soak in a hot tub. Overall, a nice hotel, but I definitely wouldn't ever pay the "rack" rate of $155 or so for the room.

Having stayed in this hotel in February 2012 & writtten a review, which was on this site for some six months - suddenly it dissappeared - so in this short version of the same, I won't mention anything outside the gates. Room & beds were OK - heated by mock wood fire stove powered by gas. Shower over bath - no plug.

However the welcome was non-existing, fortunately we found a nice fire in the bar area to have a pizza from the front of the house pizzeria for dinner. Fuller report of same on my forum. But breakfast & lunch were miserable - the waitress dissappeared to fetch her daughter from school during lunch & we sat for some 40 mins without a word from any other member of staff.

Would I stay here again - I would look carefully at the alternatives / opposition
