“Great Hotel in a Fabulous Location”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

A great hotel that is situated in an absolutely idyllic location within the Lake District. We stayed here for a long weekend on a Groupon voucher. The hotel staff were very welcoming. The room (with lakeside view and balcony) was great - a nice soft bed and a fantastic modern bathroom with jacuzzi bath, which was much appreciated after our long walk around Haweswater Lake. My partner loved being able to catch the second half of the six nations on the bathroom tv whilst soaking in bubbles! Food was tasty (we took the opportunity to eat the venison) and not pricey, which it could have been given the remoteness and lack of competition of the hotel/restaurant. The heating in the room did seem quite high and uncomfortable in the evenings, however we suspect this was to try and compensate for the cold and windy weather outside as the rooms are only single glazed. Nevertheless, we wouldn't have wanted to be cold, so can't really complain! Overall, this is a gem of a retreat if you want a relaxing or active adventure - not too far a drive from the motorway, or the next major village (Shap) with a co-op where we could buy sandwiches and supplies for our walk around the lake which we would definitely recommend (about 5 1/2 hours long) for its beautiful and unspoilt scenery! The birdlife and red squirrels at breakfast each morning were an absolute bonus and delight to watch!

Room Tip: Book a lakeside room with shared balcony if you want to be able to take in the views as and when you...

A very quirky hotel with unusual character in an amazing setting. We have just returned from Haweswater having spent 2 very comfortable nights at the hotel. Our room was a good size with lakeside view. The hotel maybe showing its age in a few places (not in the bedrooms) but the entire place is exceptionally clean. The food in the restaurant was very good with an excellent choice of dishes, some not just your usual fayre, with a great selection of homemade desserts. Breakfast was superb and locally sourced with all the trimmings.
We stayed in the Dunn Bull Suite with larger than King Sized bed which was super comfortable and complimented by the soft fluffy white bath sheets and whirlpool bath.
The staff were really friendly and were happy to offer advice on walks around the area.
If we return, we will take or hire mountain bikes so we can explore further afield without driving.
Beware if you want touristy things this probably isn't the place for you, but if you are looking for something different with incredible scenery with peace and tranquillity then Haweswater Hotel is perfect.

Room Tip: Ask for a lakeside view, there's nothing better than waking up to a spectacular view like that.

If it had not been for Groupon we would not have come across this gem as it is in a very remote location which adds to its charm.
The staff were all very helpful and friendly with lots of local knowledge. The food was totally delicious and locally sourced, portions tend to be a little on the generous side, so excellant value for money. The hotel itself, decorated in the art deco style was immaculately clean with not a hint of shabbyness at all.
Stunning views from every room we entered and an abundance of pretty birds and red squirrels. A totally enjoyable experience which we will be repeating.

From the moment of entering the hotel we knew that we were onto a good thing with our Groupon Deal. Every single one of the staff was totally professional and obviously knew what they were doing. The room was great and we had a balcony overlooking the lake. The whirlpool bath was spot on and we were able to watch TV whilst in the bath with the specially designed TV set! Even the toilet had a slo mo lowering seat! The roll top bed was excellent and there was next to no noise from neighboring rooms. The red squirrels came to visit in the morning and were happy to eat the nuts we provided from a bowl on the reception bar. The food and drinks were excellent although no real ale on tap, prices were reasonable. The hotel was totally warm throughout. Minor things for improvement are:- The wi-fi was not that good and there is next to no mobile phone signal in the area. Also the TV picture is poor with not many channels to choose from.

Room Tip: There are several rooms with a Lake View. However if you go for Lakeland, Haweswater or Lowther, yo...

Beautiful hotel in a remote valley with fabulous, well priced food on offer. Some staff were more helpful than others but overall very polite. Our room was exceptionally clean and housekeeping staff provided extra pillows and towels upon request. thrilling to see red squirrels feeding right outside the dining room despite them being camera shy. The valley is beautiful and provides various walks for different abilities and many photographic opportunities.
Only a couple of downsides, the mattress was old and the bathroom needed a shower curtain due to the huge shower head!! Oh yes and the fire doors are heavy to get through.
However, we would return and also we would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: rooms with a view nicer than the ones in the back but not essential if you are out all day

We recently stayed at the Haweswater Hotel by way of a Wowcher deal and were suppose to have stayed for two nights but that was reluctantly cut short to just one night due to a family emergency. However that said our stay was fantastic and the staff brilliant from the moment we walked through the door. The hotel is in an elevated position which looks out over the lake and is decorated tastefully in Art Deco and if its seclusion, tranquillity and silence you want were you can conveniently visit other parts of the lakes then the Haweswater Hotel is the place to stay. The room we were allocated was room No7 which is a lake view which all we can say is the scenery from our room was breath taking and spectacular. The room was very tastefully decorated and of a decent size with a bathroom that contained a Jacuzzi, shower with a flat screen TV at the end of the bath. In the evening we decided to stay in the hotel and eat in the restaurant and made a reservation for 7.30pm. We were shown to the bar area on our arrival were our order was taken whilst having a drink which to us showed us that they just didn’t want to get us in the restaurant and out again quickly. We chose our starters and main courses and were not disappointed by our choice. We chose the garlic bread and chicken liver pate for starters and for our main course we chose Cumberland sausage with mash and Steak and Ale pie and all we can say they were good portions, reasonably priced and delicious. The breakfast the next morning was equally good and is served from 08.30 – 10am in a relaxing atmosphere as dinner was the night before with all the wild life of the various birds and red squirrels playing outside the front of the hotel. The surrounding area is a walkers paradise were you can either go for a stroll or even attempt the circular walk around the lake or beyond. We will certainly pay the Haweswater Hotel a visit again in the future and cannot recommend this hotel too much and are so pleased we decided to choose this as a getaway.

Room Tip: Book the Lake Veiw Room
