My wife and I stayed her in early December for 2 nights and had a very relaxing stay. We were given the Mardale suite. If you are a telly addict you will suffer as the Tv reception is poor. This was not a problem for us. The staff were friendly and the food was very good. The views from the room across the lake reminded us of a stay we had on the banks of Loch Ness in September. Staying at the Haweswater Hotel is like a break on the Scottish Lochs without the 6 hour drive.
We will be back.

If you want technology, mobile phone reception or even a television you WILL be disappointed. We had avoucher for a luxary room with lake view and television. Room was average, view was excellant but TV did not work as per all TV's in the hotel. The lack of television added to our experience, totally away from the real world. Staff and food were very good. Seen on the hotel balcony were red squirrels and even a woodpecker. We saw deer on a local walk but sorry to say the Eagle stayed elusive. Would have been very disappointed had we paid the full price for the two nights we stayed.

Room Tip: Lake view but you will be disturbed if neighbours leave bathroom light and extractor fan on

This hotel is in a lovely secluded area, amazing views, lovely wildlife, however I am disappointed in the hotel.
Upon arrival we were told that they had no hot water, but it was one of those things and someone was looking at it. Apparently it happens frequently....
The website boasts about it being luxury... Yet it failed to meet even those standards a budget hotel would class as essential.
If there is more than 1 person sharing a room and requires a mirror to get ready, take your own mirror, there is only 1 mirror per room that's in the bathroom.
A bar man, although friendly, didn't seem to quite understand that a couple going to a secluded hotel together meant they wanted to spend time with each other, and persisted on hanging around us all night (no not hanging around if we needed anything, hung around as in stood staring and talking to us and would not leave).
The 'luxury bath' leaked in to the dining room, but looking at stains on the walls, not the first time this has happened.
The same bar man was also quite open at saying things about previous guests e.g. They were tight fisted etc :-o.
When we decided to have a meal on our second night (luckily we did get hot water by end of first night), the chef didn't know what was on the specials board and had to be reminded. I ordered bread and olives from the 'main' menu, which was supposed to be ciabatta, olives, sundried tomatoes and dipping oil. I got literally bread and olives only. The olives of which were not pitted and tasted like they came out of a jar. Great food? For such a secluded hotel you would expect them to excel at the menus in order to get repeat business, it was at best mediocre.
None of the TV's within the room worked and was told it was 'mother nature' even though it was mild weather, and again had no hot water on the morning we left.
No apologies were made, and it seemed to come across as take it or leave it.

Luckily we got our break from using Wowcher, and I can say I would not even consider paying full price for this hotel unless the maintenance is very much improved, the basics are met, and the chefs are aware of the menu.

This hotel is in a prime position, it could be amazing and charge what they like. Yet just reminded me of the programme I've titled in this review.

On a wild, wet day in early New Year stopped off here, at end of drive along Haweswater Reservoir. Initial concern at lack of any "real beer" to choose from (despite a wealth of real ale producers in the Lakes) - choice was really only Worthngton or Caffreys - no hand pumps! Only bottled cider available as well.

However opted for a snack - and it was good value and great tasting - loved the black pudding fritters with mustard mayo!

Views, despite the weather, were amazing, looking across the water towards High Street, and the bird feeders attracted woodpecker and nuthatch amongst others. Bit wet for the red squirrel viewing, sadly.

What a great hotel to escape to. Set on the side of the reservoir the Haweswater has the most spectacular views and fantastic walks. The hotel staff are fantastic. Due to recent storms the televisions were not working in any of the rooms. The staff were very apologetic and it was not a problem. It was nice to be away from the television, internet and mobile phone (no reception) for a few days. Real relaxation. Our room (Mardale suite) had a Jacuzzi bath and amazing views over the reservoir. We will return!

Went on the 19th and 20th deecember 2013. The weather was not poor but did not stop us doing the 12 mile walk around the lake. the views are fantastic. The hotel was very quite at the time of thye visit and the guest all got on very well and enjoy a good night around the open fire. The room was very nice with fantastic views. We ate both nights in the restrauaunt and have to say food was very good and the staff very helpful
