“Lovely Setting, fabulous views”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We booked a weekend special deal and were upgraded to another room which was small but had everything needed. The hotel was quiet, clean and the staff although seemed a little stressed were polite and accommodating. The evening meal in the restaurant (which we booked in advance) was fabulous and well worth a try. Such a lovely setting to get away from it all, very close to walks and activities, very narrow road to get to hotel so be aware if you are not used to back country roads. We enjoyed our short break.

This hotel with its fantastic location & stunning views loses its appeal as soon as you walk through the front door! Its dated feel & poor decor suggests a rather uncared for establishment. We were met by a clearly untrained front of house whom firstly struggled to find our booking & then was unable to direct us to our room! Eventually with other assistance we found our way to our second floor room via the stairs! (no lift here) After our first step inside we were totally deflated by the quality of the room. The room was shabbily decorated, the furniture was very dated and worn, the lighting was poor, the bathroom very basic with no towel rail or shelving and the bed was quite simply the most uncomfortable thing you will ever sleep on!!!!

Some staff training is a must, their social skills were not great!!

If the owner was to spend some money refurbishing this hotel and tidying its gardens with it's stunning location and spectacular scenery it could and would be a gold mine and must visit venue!!!

Room Tip: if you want luxury go to another hotel

I booked this last year for my fiancée for his birthday, got a great deal on KGB £99 for 2 night stay with breakfast and a bottle of wine on first night if dine in the restaurant. There was a supplement to pay for Friday and Saturday nights. We stayed sat and Sunday night.

We stayed February 16th and 17th. Onthe way in it stated te road was closed, we had to drive back on our selves to get signal and ring the hotel as we didn't want to just go down the road anyway!! We were told that it was open to residents :)

Service lovely, room gorgeous, a little small. The whirlpool bath and view made up for that though!!! Dinner on the first night was amazing and reasonably priced especially for the quality of the food!!!

We were charged for the bottle of wine, which was supposed to be free. The next night we told the waitress, she didn't seem to want to refund us for something we were entitled to. For some reason she relented and said she would refund us, all a bit confusing.

The best bits were the food and the wild life. Breakst cooked to order and perfect. Dinner just amazing, had burger one night, the best I have ever had. My fiancée. Had olive starter, basic but amazing!!! Whist eating breakfast, you could sit and watch the variety of birds and red squirrels, amazing!!

We will definitely be back!!!

We booked late for our stay and the luxury rooms with the reservoir view, balcony and jacussi/whirlpool baths were all booked so we has a standard double facing the woods. It was far too small to be a comfortable double and the only mirror was in the (very hot!! but beautiful)bathroom. The water in the shower was also VERY hot and it was seemingly not possible to lower the temperature to a comfortable level. The hotel was generally very warm, which initially was most welcome as we arrived after a nightmare journey through heavy snow and ice,but which became rather overwhelming. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food at dinner was fine if not particularly exciting and breakfast was average-although coffee was fresh and lovely(!).The open fire and the company made our evening in the bar very enjoyable, but they ran out of beer and there was no delivery until Friday so we went out for dinner and a drink on our second night.

Room Tip: Try for a reservoir view with a balcony. The stairs are very steep and fire doors very heavy so get s...

Lovely hotel in stunning scenery! Check in was very basic, still don't know check out time even now! Cosy little room with shared balcony and extremely modern en suite. Loved the jacuzzi bath, was really relaxing to be able to watch tv whilst in the bath. Food was amazing, such a great chef!!! BEST BURGER WE'VE EVER HAD!!! Staff were chatty and friendly. Lovely hotel but needs more TLC.

Friendly, helpful, hospitable team at the Haweswater Hotel - would recommend it for anyone looking for a secluded, quiet break in the Lake District. Really good food and the quieteness of Haweswater made for a brilliant nights sleep. If you live in a city and want a true 'out in the sticks' break go to the Haweswater Hotel.

first time up in the Lakes, and this little hotel was lovely, peaceful & quiet, beautiful scenery, and got to see some red squirrels :) The food was brilliant, and the service was friendly. We did have a problem with the water in the room (it went off without warning) but it came back on after a few minutes. Would highly recommend this little wonder, and will definitely be returning :)
