“GREAT HOTEL IN UNIQUE LOCATION”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

We stayed for 2 nights in december, we had a wonderfull experience, we had been moving around the globe, but here we found peace great hospitality,
We appriciated the decor with new furniture & spacious room with private balcony.
Buffets were exceptional & waiting staff were very friendly.
International food choice was excellent.
In middle of dessert we felt we are in home, as a western guest which we preferred was available, we were amazed to see & enjoyed our stay.
The hotel did not seem to be in middle of dessert as lush greenery was their, and gardens were well mentained, wonderfull place to stay and relax, even kids had a great time in play area and was amazed to see peacock in desert.

Really we will recommend our friend to come to UAE and stay at Liwa Hotel & enjoy the deserts.

Room Tip: rooms at the 1st floor had great view

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing to stay with Liwa Hotel. It is an absolute delight to note that you had an eventful stay with us. The entire team thanks you for addressing the property as “GREAT HOTEL IN UNIQUE LOCATION”. We indeed have the impressive and unique location by being on a hill overlooking the beautiful Liwa Oasis on one side and the barren Rub Al Khali Desert on the other side. The tranquil escapade and highest levels of hospitality make us stand in one of the best hotels in Abu Dhabi.

We are extremely happy to learn that your experience at our hotel was remarkable. Your kind comments about our friendly staff, exceptional décor, eclectic ambience, excellent international food choices, and other amenities for kids that complete your family holiday have been received by the team with utmost gratitude.

We would love to host you on your next trip as well.

Thanks & Regards,
Team at Hotel Liwa

If you like old-fashion architecture, this hotel is for you! It is like a run-down, not-so-clean place from the 70s, which can be inspiring for some. You must try the food at the restaurant because there are no other choices around in this desolated place. As I am not from UAE, I cannot be 100% sure about my local food judgement. But my local friends complained that the dishes are horrible, and did not live up to its price. Anyway, I enjoyed the morning light that casted a golden glow to the corridors. Then I went back to fight with my broken bathroom door.

This hotel is probably the worst we have stayed in in the UAE. It needs a good clean up and renovation. The entrance hall /lobby/reception area smells of stale curries. The guest rooms corridors carpets are dirty and threadbare. The swimming pool area is full of flies for some reason and the gardens are devoid of colour. One cannot relax beside besides the pool due to being harrassed by flies and mosquitoes. The staff are demotivated and hardly smile. During our one night stay we were woken by the fire alarm at 0045 hrs. Then by the television switching on automatically at about 0200 hrs. Then woken by noisy neighbours at about 0500hrs. Then woken by the room cleaners slamming room doors at about 0800 hrs. So much for a quiet weekend. Breakfast was just about okay but the coffee could be much improved. The rooms themselves are clean and the towels etc of good quality. The gardens are shabby. Quality of food is not good for dinner. This hotel could be wonderful... It needs a million dollars spent and totally refurbished, a good managment and motivated staff. Sorry I cannot recommend staying here... Such a pity. The rack price of a room is shown as aed 1160 ish. (euros 230ish). We paid about euros 80 equivalent which was too expensive for the quality received. I guess if you want to see the wonderful desert you can put up with every inconvenience but for avrelaxing weekend...think again.

Brilliant value. This hotel is undergoing renovations at the moment but it won't disrupt your stay. We stumbled on the hotel after having spent the day driving around looking for a place to camp and not succeeding. In desperate need for a coffee we thought we would stop in at the bit white hotel on the top of the hill. The best cup of coffee I have had in the past few days was the key to us ending up staying for a couple of night.
The staff could not have been more helpful, they made one feel very welcome in all respects. Although some of the carpets had seen better days in the corridors the bedroom we were in ( one of the newly renovated rooms) was lovely. The bathroom was a bit dated but that is nothing to complain about, in fact it added to the charm.
I had a head and body massage at the hotel, excellent. The food was also excellent. For the price we paid (half that of the Tilal Liwa Hotel just up the road) we felt this hotel was money well spent. I was also very impressed at how the hotel has taken on board the accessability for disabled persons. The restroom just off the lobby for disabled visitors was excellent, and ramps were in place in areas were there were stairs to cater or wheelchairs.
My husband and I would like to thank all the staff at the Liwa Hotel for making us so welcome. Well done :)

Room Tip: Ask for a newly renovated room.

Two hundred kilometres inland from Abu Dhabi you can be rewarded with a peaceful weekend in a clean and authentic hotel perched on its own hill (sand dune) on the edge of a true rolling desert of massive dunes.
The nights are beautifully silent - you can hear the call to prayer from far away over the still, clear air. The hotel is quite authentic in a countrified sort of way and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The place is currently being well renovated but that wasnt intrusive. The food was really good and the pool, bar and dining facilities are excellent.
Best of all - the weekend was very reasonable compared to some other upmarket alternatives - and we'd rather have the local flavour anyway.
We'd love to think the hotel will clean up its act when it comes to disposing of waste outside the perimeter wall, and 'progress' in the form of power pylons, highways and settlement must not intrude on the magificence of the splendid desert landscape.
This is a great and reasonable weekend away in splendid isolation, peace and tranquility.

PS - take a 4-wheel-drive ride into the desert with Mo(hammed) - a young and switched on guy with a true love and knowledge about his native environment. His moonlight barbeque in the desert was unforgettable.

Room Tip: Face the dunes from a first floor room.

We've stayed at Tilal Liwa and Qasr Al Sarab before so decided to try this one as we had visitors and it looked like it had the most activities available. When we checked in they had allocated us smoking rooms in an old part of the hotel - the rooms were disgusting, so much so that we looked at moving to Tilal (which is lively by the way). The smell was appalling and the carpets were really stained. Tilal was fully booked so we had no choice but to stay. We tried to make the best of it and explored, only to find that there were other areas of the hotel that had been refurbished (albeit just with new furniture) so we asked to move and they grudgingly agreed, the new rooms were much better so don't settle for one of the old ones.
The good bits of the hotel are the pool and the bar (which is also new) and there are activities like tennis which are free. The worst parts are the gym and health club (you'd definitely catch something nasty in there) and the restaurant which seriously requires a revamp, the food wasn't bad though.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this hotel above the Tilal Liwa but for the price it's not too bad. It's a good base for visiting Liwa desert and the new rooms and bar are quite nice. They do offer pretty good rates in comparison to your other options so if you don't mind that it's a bit old it's not bad value for money.

As other reviews suggest, the hotel is showing its age. But it is perfectly fine if you don't require 5 star accomodation. The facilities are really nice, and I would really recommend this for a getaway with the kids. There are plenty of things to do at the hotel.
Don't expect a whole lot from the city, but do go see the Rub' al Khali desert which is south of Liwa Oasis. It is a magnificent experience and the paved road has been extended all the way to the Saudi border, so regular cars also can get a feel of the "real" deserted desert.
