“Full of charm”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

If you happen to pass by Vonnas (1 hour north of Lyon), I highly recommend this as a worthwhile place to stop for a lunch break. Not only is the food, service and decor charming but the entire village is too. We had lunch on the terrace overlooking the small garden and pond and it was wonderful to enjoy the fresh breeze. We ordered the poulet de Bresse with morilles while the children enjoyed their 'menu enfant' version of poulet de bresse palmentier with homemade lemonade and dessert. For 15 euros, it was a great deal. During our meal, we met George Blanc who apparently lunches there every day and still takes the time to stop by each table to chat for a few minutes. Very impressive. After your lunch, be sure to wander around the beautiful little gardens, epicerie, and quaint village all lovingly restored by George Blanc in memory of his childhood.

“Great evening in detail”
Reviewed August 1, 2014 via mobile

Beautiful garden. Try to book a table outside in front of it.

Home lemonade is definitely genuine. To be tried for sure.

Pinot noir by the glass is quite deceptive but Cote Rotie by the glass is awesome.

Signature dish (starter) pâte en croute marbré au foie gras is delicious and foie de veau as well.

Poulet de bresse à la broche is quite deceptive, very small portion and heavily too firm (probably not cooked enough).

Side order Green peas with mint are very good with a very interesting taste !

Unexpectedly the Chef Mr Blanc came to enquired about the experience. Thanks.

“Simply the best”
Reviewed June 24, 2014 via mobile

This was my dining room for a 5 day stay at Vonnas. The bresse is to die for. The creamy chicken with chicken liver pate and sherry vinegar creates a unique touch to this classic dish.

“Terrible”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

Awful service, no water offered at the table, warm drinks, waited over half an hour for the second part of our first course to arrive. The waitress could not care less. The second part of the starter arrived with the main course, totally pointless by then. The main course was purely edible, nothing more. I am sure that if you are a fluent French speaker this would be a better experience, but as English speakers we felt truly let down. Management did apologise, but it was really too little too late. We have visited this restaurant many times in the past, the standards have dropped so much we will not be returning.

“Incredible! A great overall experience!!”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

We have eaten at many Michelin star restaurants and consider ourselves fairly harsh critics.
My husband and I stayed two nights at Georges Blanc and had dinner on arrival at the casual Ancienne Auberge and had the famous Bresse chicken (cooked two different ways and both amazing).
Lunch in the restaurant was an overall "perfect" experience. Service was formal yet friendly, each course was mouth watering delicious with immaculate presentation and whilst we had a 7 course meal and two bottles of wine (one of which was 30 years old and priced very fairly) we left wanting to do it all over again tomorrow!
