If you happen to pass by Vonnas (1 hour north of Lyon), I highly recommend this as a worthwhile place to stop for a lunch break. Not only is the food, service and decor charming but the entire village is too. We had lunch on the terrace overlooking the small garden and pond and it was wonderful to enjoy the fresh breeze. We ordered the poulet de Bresse with morilles while the children enjoyed their 'menu enfant' version of poulet de bresse palmentier with homemade lemonade and dessert. For 15 euros, it was a great deal. During our meal, we met George Blanc who apparently lunches there every day and still takes the time to stop by each table to chat for a few minutes. Very impressive. After your lunch, be sure to wander around the beautiful little gardens, epicerie, and quaint village all lovingly restored by George Blanc in memory of his childhood.
