We arrived in Cape Town on a gorgeous sunny winter's day only to be told the weather was going to take a turn for the worse the next day and stay that way for the rest of our time here! So despite being exhausted from 24 hours of travel from London we rushed over to the cable car by taxi. Upon arrival the ticket kiosk kindly refunded the online tickets which I had bought on line in advance to save a couple of dollars which were for the following morning and we bought two new ones. The wait was not long as July is low season here. The cable car rotates as you glide smoothly up in 4.5 minutes to the top so everyone on board gets a 360 degree look! Even my hubby who is not keen in heights was fine as it is so smooth and fast. The views at the top are spectacular. Each turn brings a new view, a different rock, a small Dassie (cute African rodent!) or various trails you can chose from. We were up there from 4 pm - 5:45 pm (last car goes down at that time) and the sunset was fantastic. There is also a great cafe with full coffee/tea/hot chocolate and food/snacks plus gift shop. Do not leave Cape Town without going up the mountain!! You will never regret it ! Please note that the cable car closes on July 28th until August 10th for annual maintenance. Also dogs are allowed because we saw a lovely chocolate lab up there! Wear sensible walking shoes as the pathways are rocky and uneven. Fantastic!!
