This is one of my favourite day-outings in Cape Town. The views on a clear day are amazing; but the wind can be a “nuisance”. I don’t think I have ever been to the Point without a cool-to-cold wind blowing, so be sure to take appropriate clothing. The only other negative is that the Baboons are not afraid of humans and will steal food out of your hand if they can, so be very careful when carrying anything that may look interesting to a Baboon. The park itself is amazing with a wide variety of flora and fauna and, of course, the incredible views from the lighthouse itself. There is a funicular (The Flying Dutchman) to transport you from the parking area to the Lighthouse area; but the walk up and down isn’t too bad with a reasonable level of fitness – especially as there are some lovely views that can be photographed as you take a break or three. All-in-all, a venue worth visiting and spending a few hours in.

Cape Point is a lovely drive from Cape Town, through vast open land. Ostriches run wild along the hilltops or pause near the road. Mountains fall dramatically into False Bay. The sky looks enormouse. It is stunning scenery, and we got the feeling that we were at the very edge of the world.

There are long walking trails for visitors who have only a day to spend, and there are basic lodges for hikers who spend the night.

Tourists flow in and out like the tides, stopping for photos at the latitude and longitude signs, but the paths provide a place for peaceful escape from the crowds.

There seem to be no facilities at the actual Cape of Good Hope, but whatever one needs can be found up the hill at the base of the lighthouse.

This place is a must! The panoramic view is simply awesome. But, you must go on a nice day or whenever the clouds are high. The excursion will take around 4 hours. Be advised that you will not have lunch, but you may have some snack when it stops at Simons Town.
