“Could be excellent all round”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

First impressions on entering the modern foyer/reception desk is how spotlessly clean everything is, the check-in was swift and efficient, and the cleanliness continues throughout. In the main the staff are friendly with the animation team working tirelessly to keep you happy. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean and well equipped but the majority of "balconies" are very narrow and cannot accommodate a table and chairs which is a serious shortcoming. The grounds are compact and the hotel feels hemmed in by the surrounding hotels and the proximity of the main road. The private beach, an 80 metre stroll away, is clean and well equipped for sunbathing. Food is an important part of any holiday and it didn't disappoint generally with a good choice, fresh salad and fruit freely available. The bonus of an omelette or crepe cooked in front of you added to the experience. The wine for all inclusive guests was a real disappointment especially when you consider Montenegro does produce some excellent wines, especially reds. The white was insufficiently chilled and reminded me of nasty German wine, too sweet and fruity. Layout in the servery could be improved as at busy times the queues were long since the hot food was not duplicated as in most self service establishments. The waiters went about their tasks quickly and replenished tables as soon as they became vacant ready for the next guests. Would I visit again? Yes but next time my room would need a proper balcony and it would be nice, as a smoker, to have a covered area outside for the purpose.

Room Tip: Sea view are quieter but select a higher floor

Our room was nice but not 4 star quality. The staff were friendly and very helpful and everywhere was spotless - exceptionally clean. Beach only 1min. walk away with private section for Tara guests. Beach + pool towels are free. They have a 700yr old olive tree just before path to the beach - I remembered that after thinking for 5mins for something good to say !! Michael our jet2 holiday rep was very good aswell !! Sorry but here comes the downside ! We were half board + read reports about food before we booked - thank goodness their soup was always nice as majority of the rest was TERRIBLE ! I see people are still saying food is nice - I read one review saying food wasn't nice + thought there's always one, so ignored it but trust me it is NOT nice ! We found some edible things during our stay but nothing particularly good with the exception of freshly cooked mussels {which I loathe} in some sauce my husband loved so he had 2 portions - at least HE enjoyed something ! Photos of the food portray prawns which I love but didn't even see 1 prawn in the salad section never mind main meal section ! Breakfast was ok and we went at lots of different times so the same faults were always there - I was surprised to see bacon at all but unfortunately it was very fatty + horrible, 2 trays of fried eggs put out + replaced only when finished - it didn't matter if there were 3 burst yolk , dried up ones , that was your option - take one or move on ! Always lots of people everywhere queuing for meals + lots of rude people disregarding queue + going to front - even on our last morning I had to squeeze past lots of French people to put my bread on the toaster but when I returned with my fatty bacon to collect my toast an elderly Frenchman took my 2 pieces + his own 2 pieces - how rude is that at 6.45am ? I was not a happy bunny !
Only 1 towel per day is allowed per room so you will still need to take your own with you.
Pool bar opens when it feels like it. Can understand if bad weather but it was often closed when it was just cloudy. Beach bar opens 6am - I was never up at 6am so can't say if it was busy !!!! it closed 8pm so obviously never busy at 9pm !
NO entertainment whatsoever at night except folklore night on Saterdays which was free for all inc. guests but 5euros pp otherwise but only on for 1hr so didn't bother wasting 10euros. Went to play table tennis + ball was split so no use - turns out they use it as jack for French bowls - sorry pentague or something like that ! on every day 4pm - tried a go at that aswell but got sent away as we weren't Saga customers but then got invited back to play as didn't have enough people !!! OMG. We played tho + had fun even tho we didn't win !
Thank goodness we met a nice couple from Ireland - Ken + Ignes - so we had a few giggles , they were only there for 1wk so our 2nd wk was even more boring !
Tour of Montenegro trip was good + scenery is beautiful ! Tevat + Kotor are so lovely and so is Budva which is only walkable place from Becici but if you don't like going to bed on holiday at 11pm choose a different location !
Best day of our holiday was our yacht trip on Monty B which I found on Tripadvisor ! Absolutely marvellous !

I spent two weeks at the hotel Tara, and everything about it was excellent. The room was spacious and spotless as was the en-suite. The food was lovely with a large choice at every meal, and being self service, no one need go hungry. I was on an all-inclusive holiday with Saga, so the wine was also there whenever you wanted it, and it was local and of a reasonable quality. The resident hairdresser was also very good, and very reasonable in his charging. I visited the hotel masseur - a delightful Asian girl who was an expert in her field. The hotel is in an ideal position for the beach and only a short walk to Budva - an very interesting old town with quaint winding streets and lots of little shops. In the new part of the town, there is a modern shopping precinct with some high quality stores. I can highly recommend the Hotel Tara for comfort, position and amazing spaciousness - the only tiny gripe is that the balconies were too narrow to sit out - but with the patio door open, it was possible to place a chair where you could enjoy the sun - which shone everyday in the latter part of April. The staff were exceedingly helpful and Janina was the best Rep I have had on a holiday.

Room Tip: Aim for the front - or over the pool. The side where I was had a noisy machine on the roof which was...

We stayed here for two weeks at the beginning of May 2013. The weather was a lot warmer than expected, even by the locals, with only a couple of days of cloud and the odd rumble of thunder. We really enjoyed the warm sun!

The hotel itself is modern and very clean with newly decorated interiors and smart furniture throughout. We arrived in Dubrovnik as we booked through Jet2 Holidays and the transfer was just shy of 2 hours. We had little delay at the Croatian border. The Hotel Tara is situated along the coast from Budva, a nice 20 minute walk along the coastal path although there is a lot of building going on. The path itself now goes under a huge new development which looks set to be completed within the next few years.

The hotel was generally very busy so mealtimes could be a bit frantic and it was a bit trying at times, especially with certain people ignoring the queues!! However the dining room is very large with plenty of tables. The food was plentiful and varied. As with most all inclusive holidays the food did become a bit repetitive after a while but there's plenty of good restaurants near by and we ate out a couple of times. Usually a choice of chicken, pork, veal and fish, served various ways with different salads and vegetables. There was plenty of fresh fruit and the desserts were very good. The soups served were also very tasty although I felt there may have been a bit of recycling of the previous days meat and veg, which is fair enough as I'd do it at home!!

The pool area was spotlessly clean and we never struggled to get a sun bed. There are plenty of soft grassy areas to lie on at busy times. The pool is quite large but loses the sun after about 2pm and was cold but refreshing after a few hours in the heat!

As the high season was only just starting to come to life during our stay the hotel beach only opened half way through and the beach bar wasn't yet functioning although it was soon to be opened in mid May. The hotel beach is nice with coarse sand but more stony towards the water. The sea was very calm and ideal for children. It wasn't too busy during our stay which was nice. You can walk left along the front to the village at the other end of the beach were there were cheaper bars and some restaurants.

As we were all inclusive we were told we could only use the pool bar which was fine as it was pleasant at night. However they closed it due to a forecast of rain in the evening so the inside bar did become a bit crowded on occasion.

We opted to stay in the Magnolia Villas across the road thinking it would be quieter than the main hotel however they are nearer the main road and we overlooked a car park so actually we had road noise as opposed to people noise! It didn't really bother us too much as its fairly quiet at night and we were out all day.

The room was modern and comfortable. Our only complaints were that the floor remained dirty throughout our stay - our feet were black after coming out of the shower! Also the shower plug hole wasn't quick enough to drain so the shower tray filled up within seconds. We complained twice about this but it was not resolved. Possibly just a design flaw anyway? So our shower overflowed constantly leaving a damp urine smell in the bathroom which wasn't pleasant to be honest.

All in all though I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again. We found it strange that not many excursions were offered locally though but we ended up booking with the Saga guests who were very friendly and happy to have us tag along!

We went to Lake Skadar which was lovely and Kotor is a must see, just 6€ return from the bus station in Budva and is really spectacular!!

Wonderfully clean hotel with excellent staff. The food was very good with a fair choice of everything and lots of fresh fruit. Our holiday was particularly enhaced by the attentions of the Saga representative Janina and the animation team. Would definitely return. This hotel has everything one could need.

First time Saga customers had a wonderful time at the Hotel Tara. The Staff were all so friendly and could not have been more helpful. Food was plentiful but could be lacking in heat sometimes, it apears that this is something which does not worry European Guests and is peculiar to Brits. We just mucked in. Saga was a realy good experience and is recommended to any qualifier. Trips are good and scenery wonderful. I did have an issue with litter on some occasions, something Montenegro needs to urgently get to grips with. Overall a good holiday. Late season BEWARE OF THE MOSQUITO's - thay are aggressive.

Room Tip: Limited sea view rooms available but probably worth the extra

We have just returned from a week at the Sentido Tara in Becici, Montenegro. We travelled with SAGA and flew from Gatwick to Tivat with Montenegro Airlines. The aircraft was a little on the old side but OK and Tivat is only 25 minutes from the hotel - much better than the 21/2 hour transfer from Dubrovnik if you fly with BA.

The Hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard and is very modern and spotlessly clean. The room was good with plenty of wardrobe space, Air-con, flat-screen TV and a mini-bar/fridge. Also a safe which was free of charge - unusual in Europe. The bathroom had only a shower - no bath. The balcony was disappointing as it is only about two foot wide so no chairs.

The restaurant is large and again, spotlessly clean. Meals are buffet-style so the food was not always as hot as it could have been and the plates were cold which didn't help. The variety of food was good although there were only three meat choices available, plus one fish and plenty of vegetables. One the whole, the food was good.

The hotel pool is badly situated, right up against the hotel, and gets little sun on the actual pool and as a result of this, is very cold. The sea was warmer than the pool! The hotel has a private area of beach about 100 metres away with free sun loungers, umbrella and towels.

The staff are pleasant and friendly and almost all of them speak English to a varying degree. SAGA have their own lounge, terrace and bar and Bojan, the barman is, as Sara B says, pleasant and cheerful and remembers your drinks!. Janina, the SAGA rep, was excellent - always there to help if you needed it and making sure that we were happy.

We had a very enjoyable week, helped by blue skies and 26 degrees every day, and we would certainly return to this hotel

Room Tip: If you are not worried about the view, try for a room at the back of the hotel with a large balcony.
