Funny that I've only been to La Cava in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle a couple of times in the years that I've lived here. I've always enjoyed the place, the food is authentic, the ingredients fresh, the service is better that the average place on the Bahia de Banderas, and value is very good.
Went there for dinner with a friend, the wait staff was very attentive, our drinks were served quickly as we looked over the extensive menu.
Food portions are quite large and they do offer to "box up" what you can't finish at the table. I had a wonderful chicken fajita meal that I would rank against any others in the area. A tad spicy (heat) for me ... but hey ... it's Mexico. The dish was served with very nice re-fried beans, rice and some extra slices of avocado which helps the "heat" issue.
I would highly recommend you try La Cava in La Cruz. Very good value, good ingredients and nice people ensuring that won't forget them.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner with three other couples, all sailors cruising in Mexico. Although the service was slow at first (the restaurant was quite busy) once we were organized in terms of couples and cuentas (bills) the drinks came promptly. Most of us has Mexican combination plate all of which were delicious! But the highlight was the musical entertainment - La Patrona singing like an angel and backed up by two caballeros on guitar and keyboard. The young singer could have graced an opera hall - so pure and true was her voice. Enjoy La Patrona and fine Mexican Cuisine at La Cava on Monday evenings!

We ate here almost every night during our stay in La Cruz. The staff is super friendly and the food is super good. This is the at home kind of Mexican food you want to relax into as often as possible. We are vegetarians and they bent over backwards to meet our needs deliciously! The street side patio seating is casual and fresh. Very convenient to marina and town.

We loved this little restaurant and went there repeatedly during our 2-week stay in La Cruz. The decor is that of a typical Mexican restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and speaks some English. They also have menus in English. The food is very reasonably priced, and it is really delicious! They have wonderful combination platters and although their menu isn't huge, they have a really nice variety of Mexican food. Their shrimp ceviche, tlalpeño soup, nopales salad, guacamole, green enchiladas and poblano rellenos were just a few of our favorites, but everything we tried here was delicious!

La Cava is easily reached from the main street to the marina by turning left at the top of the plaza on Cameron and is on the right before Delfin (the next block). Open 4PM to midnight every day, this restaurant has been a mainstay of La Cruz for a very long time (La Cruz is new...only a town since 1930), and is owned by the Martinez family, one of the first here. You can eat on the patio on the street or inside. The service is very good and so is the food and it has a full-service bar. Everything is freshly made or locally obtained, and the prices are the best for a full-service restaurant in town (and I have lived here for 2 yrs). The waiters (mostly George) speak English a bit at least, the interior is fun, the family is warm and welcoming. They have the best chile rellenos (poblanos rellanos) in town. Good menu.
