“Idyllic location, happy waiters”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

This is a hidden jewel! Live entertainment several nights a week, great seafood and mexican specialties. The owner stops by to make sure you are enjoying yourself - and we feel welcome just come in and use the restroom. Too bad the owners of the restaurant next door (Eva's Brickhouse) are inconsiderate, deliberately playing loud canned music to try to drown out the lovely musicians. Make sure you sit inside, not on the patio, to avoid this rudeness. Oso's should build a wall between the two restaurants.

“Thursday Eve!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

Wow, We were recommended to go to Oso's Oyster on Thursday eve b/c Bryan Savage would be playing his saxaphone and flute. He's fabulous and very entertaining. First let me say, the margaritas were potent! The tuna mango avocado appetizer was delicious as well as the raw oysters. We let the waiter order our meal for us and had a whole fish for 2 which was seasoned and marinated perfect. By the end of the evening, we were dancing and mingling with the other guests at the restaurant. I definitely would go back but only when Bryan Savage is performing. A real fun night!

“Exceptional attentive service & great music”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

Four of us just went to Oso's Oyster Bar for dinner, and to hear musician (flute & sax) Bryan Savage who appears Thursday evenings.

We got a nice table by the water with a view of the La Cruz marina as well as a clear view of the stage area. The service was very good, with no less than 3 to 4 waiters, and the general manager, checking in with us regularly throughout the evening. The waiters woud get upset if I poured myself wine from the bottles we ordered - I was doing THEIR job!

The menu is mostly seafood, but chicken and beef is also offered. Chips with 4 different salsas arrived first. The starter courses offer an interesting selection of oysters - we shared the Oysters Rockefeller and they were excellent. Also tried the Crispy Octopus - it was tender and tasty, but the sauce on it made it a bit more soggy than crispy.

Surf and Turf with lobster tail (or you could have it with 3 prawns) was ordered by most for 370 pesos. As is the norm for this area, the lobster tails were a little small. The steaks were thick, tender, and cooked to the proper doneness. You have to ask for garlic butter, but it does arrive.

I had the spinach and shrimp enchiladas in a green tomatillo sauce. It was tasty, but could have used a few more bits of shrimp in the stuffing - it was about 70% spinach.

The wine list is adequate with many reasonably priced choices (e.g. 240 pesos).

I couldn't have a cafe latte after dinner as apparently the milk steamer was broken. I declined the substitute "Sexy Coffee" that was suggested.

I asked about dessert and the three choices were rather uninspiring - bananas flambe, neopolitan ice cream, and vanilla ice cream.

The music by Bryan Savage was excellent - he is an incredible musician and we really enjoyed his playing. He does a wide range of favourites plus some of his own compositions.

One final tip - the chairs aren't all that comfortable (typical upright wooden chair with a rough woven seat), especially for sitting to listen to the music after dinner. We did see the table next to us somehow got two nice, thick seat cushions. If you go, see if you can get cushions too!

“Best food all week!!”

The ceviche was superb, the oysters were wonderful, the music was sublime and the night air coming off the ocean was lovely. Our adult group of five were well treated.
