Villa Bella Bed and Breakfast Inn
Reviewed April 27, 2007

We spent 10 days over Christmas 2006 with Elsa and her amazing staff in La Cruz which is just north of Puerto Vallarta. we wanted an authentic and personal experience away from the condo hawkers and commercial aspects of Mexico and we got it. Villa Bella is an absolute delight. Elsa really cares about your time in her B&B and goes out of her way to make recommendations and take care of you. In the morning you will experience a home cooked breakfast in the outdoor kitchen overlooking the Bay. Colorful and bright tiles and many special mdecorating touches enhance the experience. We had our 15 year old son with us and this was our first Christmas away from home. Elsa made it so special for us and the other guests. What a delight to experience this holiday in another country - from midnight mass at the small local church to the fireworks celebration it was all so memorable. Elsa's restaurant Frascati serves some of the best Italian food you will have anywhere in the charming little village of La Cruz or Puerto Vallarta for that matter. We loved the food and the congenial staff. We always felt like we were coming back to our home at the end of the day. We actually learned how to kick back and relax spending two days just hanging out in our lovely room, reading, relaxing, taking a swim, talking with other guests and enjoying the atmosphere. The buses are easy to figure out and you can enjoy the beaches at nearby Buserius, another charming little town by the sea. Sayulita, the surfer haven, to the north, is equally enjoyable. The word is getting out on this heavenly b&b and the sleepy fishing village of La Cruz. If you like stunning sunsets/sunrises, authentic experiences and like to make friends for life you can't go wrong. We will be back.

Previous details by TA clients, along with favorable outside reviews,
convinced us to book at Villa Bella B & B on an extended business trip to PV. Photos on TA, as well as reviews, are accurate depicting the stellar accommodations and hospitality extended by Elsa and her dedicated staff. Villa Bella works diligently to give guests the best
stay possible and we give them highest accolades. No need to reiterate all the wondrous amenities described by previous guests, but be assured it is true. We loved the peace within the villa walls,
but some reviewers could give the impression the B&B is silent and isolated, which is mistaken. From the Villa, pleasant sounds of the ordinary commerce and life of the town are heard easily, which is appreciated by travelers who like to experience a bit of local ambiance. Your walking shoes are put to good use descending the road into town, just minutes away, where bus connections are convenient and reliable to the beaches and interesting adjacent communities, including PV. A short walk brings you to the active downtown area, with excellent dining and shopping for regional folk art. In town, be sure to enjoy Elsa's restaurant; we did, more than once! Elsa is a gifted hostess, who can call a taxi for your ride to Puerto Vallarta, but equally easily (for you) she will arrange experiences tailored to your interests, such as our amazing day trip to the estuary at La Tovara and historic San Blas nearby plus much more. Just one example illustrating why our stay at Villa Bella way outdid the other half of our trip, the resort experience (oh, Elsa can send you there too if you want to check out a resort…) Thanks to a fine hotelier and her staff, we thoroughly enjoyed our sample of experiences in a fascinating location and got some rest, too.

Staying at Villa Bella is an utter delight! The manager, Elsa, is just amazing! The incredible service begins when Elsa comes to pick you up personally from the airport. It is just a 20 minute drive, but Villa Bella is a world away from the noise, tourists and traffic of Puerta Vallarta. Villa Bella stands high on a hill overlooking the village of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. The entire compound is lovely. We stayed in the Master Suite of the Guest House. The Master Suite is practically an entire, self-contained house - living room, dining room/kitchen and bedroom/bath suite. One whole side of the building is open-air with a high palapa roof, veranda and hammock for two - and the most incredible view of La Cruz, the Bay of Banderas and the mountains beyond! And all of this in total privacy - you are all alone in your own high eagle's aerie! We could hardly tear ourselves away! But occasionally we did - to the beautiful infinity-edge pool above, which shared the same view and for the full, delicious breakfasts, a different, handmade entree every morning. The village of La Cruz is just a short walk down the hill and there are several excellent restaurants right there in town. We did find it helpful to have a car to go exploring the surrounding areas. Elsa, herself, is one of the very best parts of staying at Villa Bella. From the very first email that you send her, you can tell that you will be in excellent hands! She makes you feel totally at home, she is completely professional, she will arrange anything you need and she will give you as much help or as much privacy as you desire! We talked to several guests that have returned to Villa Bella a number of times - and we can understand why!

My husband and I warily booked a holiday to Mexico when I was 7 months pregnant. At Villa Bella we had nothing to worry about, and Elsa and her staff catered to our every request. Our room was absolutely spectacular...in fact it was more like a small house, it may not have been called the honeymoon suite but we declared it so.

The only difficulty we had staying here was LEAVING, there's so much to explore nearby, it's amazingly well located to visit a different beach each day. And nothing better than coming "home" to peaceful and secure vila bella for a night swim, a dvd or a wine overlooking the lights of the bay and listening to sounds of the village below.

Rosa, Juan and Marcela took amazing care of us - including waiting for us to get out of the pool to serve breakfast (the pool is irrestistable) and Juan taking us to fix a flat. Elsa is an amazing hostess giving daily suggestions and directions for local adventures - great to not have to think! Definitely rent a car (very cheap). She and Marcela willingly helped us plan to retake our vows at Villa Bella...until we decided it was more fun lying around!

Villa Bella is a serene B and B on a hillside with great views, and is a beautiful, colourful and delightfully Mexican setting. We usually don't go to the same place twice, but can't wait to return to Villa Bella.

We just came back from our honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta and Villa Bella and can speak enough about it! From the time Elsa picked up us at the airport we knew we'll have a great time. She gave us a tour to the beautiful fishermen village pointing us the closest minimarts, the little restaurants (delicious!) and atractions of the town. Right after we went direct to the B&B and WOW! the view was spectacular, both ocean and mountain view, the pool was so nice and inviting, the lobby with a big "palapa" and fine mexican decoration and the best, Juan and Rosa waiting for us with a nice smile and some tropical cocktails, we were so happy already! Then Elsa showed us our room (the honeymooners suite:)) which has a huge king size bed decorated with a heart made with flower petals, a large bathroom with a bathtub right next to the bed, palapa roof, terrace and an amazing view to the Bay. The bed was so comfortable (totally unexpected in Mexico) and the decoration of the suite was very nice and romantic, with the canopy around the bed and candles. We loved our toiletries (Hermes) and the bottle of fine champagne waiting for us, well worth the little "extra" money for the honeymooners package. Also the massages were so relaxing, Yolanda was just great, we had 2 more massages during our week stay. Breakfast was delicious and filling, we loved the eggs mexican style and rancheiros and the "cafe de olla". We spent most of our time around the Villa, just went to PV twice, but it was so crowded that we returned to our "paradise" after few hours of sightseeing and shopping. We didn't rent a car but bus service was good tought. We went to most of the restaurant in La Cruz and really liked it Black forest was the best IMO, Elsa and a friend are at about to open their own Italian restaurant close to the B&B, hope to visit it in our next trip very soon. Overall we loved our stay at the Villa Bella, PV and La Cruz very much, we highly recommend this hidden gem to romantic and couples looking for a special place outside PV with great service, hospitality, view and beautiful acommodations. Thank you Elsa, Rosa, Juan, Marcela and all of you for making our honeymoon unforgettable! Mike & Betsy,

We stayed in the beginning of November in the Master suite. We had originally booked a smaller room, but were tempted into upgrading upon our arrival. The entire property is absolutely beautiful and my wife who was afraid of sanitary conditions in Mexico was very reassured by the meticulous nature with which the property is maintained. Our room had an outside livingroom, which was very cool, even though we did not get to use it much because we were on the road most of the time. (You definitely need a car there)
A cool feature was the free access to Internet that the B&B provides. Since there are no high priced phones in the rooms, I asked if they would mind if I installed Skype on the PC. They did not and even had a headset handy. I suggested to created an honor pool to pay for Skype - not sure if that was done, but in any case you can always log into your own Skype account. Very nice to stay in touch during the vacations. Overall a five-star experience with superb service, facilities and vistas.

under normal circumstances my husband and I plan our trips ahead with plenty of time. This year we decided to venture out and find a place to stay on the spur of the moment. From the moment we arrived we knew we had found a great get away in this Bed and Breakfast. From the outstanding service to the cleanliness, to the stunning views of the Ocean from every corner of the place, this is just a fabulous place to recommend.
The staff caters to you every morning with traditional Mexican breakfasts, and home made pastries. All in all when looking for a place to truly relax, this is the place to come to.
