Wonderful accommodation with very friendly hosts, who offer valuable advise on area, tracks, history and happy to chat.
The rooms are extremely clean and tidy, offer all convenience and include little touches which reveal the caring and thoughtful hosts, including central heating, and flower arrangements as well as abundance in towels. You will need them, if you want to enjoy the highlight of the lodge: the wonderfully heated spa amongst the fern trees. We saw the milky way framed by silver ferns and romantic lighting leading up the spa pool which is so secluded you could think to be somewhere deep in the bush. It was such a treat after all day hiking, releasing all the tensions from sore muscles, before falling into the Egyptian cotton sheet and pillows covered beds which are so comfy that I felt like taking them with me.
Breakfast was delicious, the homemade jams and marmalade not to be missed.
It is a little drive to the next dinner places, but hey, this is a small price to pay for having this wonderful secluded, and peaceful place in NZ's amazing wilderness. Not to forget, 45 min drive to AKL CBD!!! What more do you want for a relaxing weekend or romantic getaway?

Room Tip: Queen room has the nicer view, King room is bigger, and offers chance to separate the king bed into...

It was wonderful to be greeted with cake for afternoon tea on our arrival. The Hosts Keith and Ann were very helpful, giving us explicit directions to find the lodge which is right on the LaTrobe Track, but some way from the beach. The black sand beaches of Karekare and Piha were startlingly beautiful, but the dining options in the area are disappointingly limited.

David W. Preston UK Lone Kauri Lodge is located in a lovely secluded setting with terrific views over the Tasman sea. Very comfortable rooms, clean and tidy. Ann and Keith are excellent hosts, most helpful and welcoming. First class breakfast. Comfortable sitting room with Sky TV. Bush walks nearby, which lead down to the beautiful beaches of Piha and Karekare (not to be missed).
All in all, a great place to stay and enjoy the real Kiwi experience.

Room Tip: 'King' room slightly larger than the 'Queen', but the Queen room is still more than...

If you like peace and quiet you will love this place, Great for walking and sight seeing. Also within striking distance from busy Auckland if you fancy a change. The hosts couldn't be more helpful, we are amazed at the one bad review! Also ideal for a romantic get away.

Room Tip: Both double en suite rooms have very large beds and TV. Opened onto a large decked BBQ area. There i...

During my recent trip to Auckland, my friend and I stayed at the Lone Kauri Lodge and it was a wonderful experience. Ann and Keith are very warm and accomodating. When we first arrived, Ann immediately greeted us outside and asked if we would like to switch our room from one king sized bed to two double beds (since there were two of us). Naturally, we asked for the two beds. We dropped our stuff off and headed back out to do a Hobbiton tour (about 2 hours away). Before we left, Ann provided us with a Lord of the Rings travel guide for us to look at during our drive out there. We did our tour and arrived back around 10:30PM and were greeted by Keith and chatted with him for a bit. He asked about our trip and prepped the hot tub for us and asked what time we would like breakfast the next morning. The hot tub was awesome too. After a long day of driving/travelling, it was definitely what we needed. The beds were also very comfortable and my friend and I slept well. The next morning, they gave us a huge breakfast of fresh fruit, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, coffee, and tea. Very tastey. I would definitely stay here again...thanks again, Ann and Keith!

What a great break away from the city. Keith and Ann are really helpful letting you know what there is to do in the area, being close to some good bush walks and fantastic beaches. The ensuite rooms are a nice size and spotlessly clean with endless views over the local bush and out to sea.

Great secluded location. Good quality room and large (shared) lounge area. Keith & Ann were very friendly and helpful. Very welcoming of our 1 yr old daughter. Close to beaches, good family tramping....but be warned you won't find any wine in Piha...so make alternative arrangements.
Would certainly recommend the LKL. We'll be back there for sure.

Room Tip: We only saw the "small" room....and was plenty big enough for us and a cot.
