“An hidden treasure in Komatipoort”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

Our one night stay at the Trees Too Guest Lodge was a very pleasant discovery. Tranquil settings, lovely swimming pool area and a remarkably delicious cuisine. The room was nice and comfortable. The bathroom could be improved by changing the lavatory that we found too small and awkward to use. Service was very good too. The closeness to the Krueger National Park Crocodile Gate was a must. We loved the owner's willingness to provide us with detailed information on where to go in the Krueger Park. Thanks to her excellent advice we ended up having a fabulous visit. Will definitely go back to Trees Too and will gladly reccomend it to our friends.

Hi! many thanks for taking the time to give us such a lovely review on Trip advisor. We really apprecaite it! We do take pride in the personalised nature of our service as we want all guests to get the very best out of their visit to Trees Too in the hope they will recommend us and come back. We enjoyed meeting the 3 of you. With regards to the toilet..you had actually booked the wheelchair friendly triple room which has a specially adapted toilet with hand rails etc. The other rooms have different toilets, so, sorry if this confused you. Next time we will gladly allocate a different room. Hope to see you soon!

Hi Johan! Many thanks for reviewing us so positively on Tripadvisor. All feedback is very important to us and we do try hard to meet guests needs. You came to us at a particularly busy time of the year so I'm glad all was well. Come for longer next time to enjoy the Kruger Park and have dinner with us too! Best wishes for 2013.

Trees Too Lodge is such a special place you almost want to keep it secret, but to do so would be unfair.Upon arrival you receive five star treatment from your hosts Martin & Sue Steele. Throughout your stay you are made to feel welcome. The rooms are tastefully furnished and cleanliness is of a high standard. The sub tropical garden is delightful & tranquil. We stayed on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis and all our meals were well prepared and tasteful.During our stay we had booked a sunset drive from Crocodile Bridge Gate on New Years Day. We were about to cancel this trip due to a flat car battery. No problem, Martin stepped in and took us to the park in the afternoon & came back for us later that evening. The next morning he took us to buy a new battery. Such kindness was sincerely appreciated. If you are looking for a place to stay that is safe & secure and offers exceptional value for money try Trees Too Lodge.
Trees Too Lodge is special not only for what it can offer visitors but because of its hosts Martin & Sue who go the extra mile to make your stay exceptional. We would highly recommend it to South African & International visitors alike John & Lindi WilliamsBenoni South Africa

Warm welcome, and every excursion we asked was perfectly organised.
Location near crocodile bridge gate in Kruger Park is super. It seemed to be the best entrance for Kruger park, and very good location to go further to Swaziland or Mozambique.

Our stay was average, and left us wishing we had stayed at a different guest house.

Though the staff was very friendly and helpful we can not help but be disappointed by the food which on the menu sounds fantastic was in reality quite bad. The king-klip was overcooked (difficult to believe, right?) and one of the Chocolate-amarula mousses was lumpy. Luckily we weren't billed for the bad mousse but Sue the manager or owner didn't even offer a replacement which I would have been willing to pay for (situation was not handled very professionally. The room was also poorly stocked which we were told had beer in the refrigerator but this was not true.

Also as this was our stop over close to the border entering Mozambique, we found the restriction of not being able to leave prior to 5 am unnecessarily restrictive. We were told that this was due to security but felt that it could have been left.

The advise from Sue was appreciated but not entirely welcome as Sue was a bit imposing and extremely disappointed when we informed her that we were not going to take the proposed 150km detour she was suggesting to safe time at the border.

Thanks for taking the time to review us on and many thanks for the feedback that you found me to be friendly and helpful. I am however sorry to learn of your other concerns in this way. Had I been made aware of issues, they would have been rectified immediately, It is extremely rare that we receive complaints and it is in our best interests to put things right at that time, as I did with your 1 chocolate mousse. My advice for your travel over the border was based on 8 years experience of living in Komatipoort, so offering you the option to travel via Swaziland to Maputo at this busy time of year was sensible..and I'm not sure what you thought my motives were..but believe me, many other guests took the advice and saved themselves many hours. With regards to the 2300-0500 gates locked policy. This was made very clear to you in e mails at the point of booking, but you chose to stay anyway. The point of the policy is as I stated in correspondence "to ensure a peaceful and secure night's sleep by all guests". thanks again. I hope you had a lovely holiday and wish you a great 2013!

This lodge is a perfect base for exploring the southern part of Kruger, entering the park through the nearby Crocodile River Gate. It is run by a British couple that fell in love with SA when on holiday a few years ago, decided to fundamentally change their careers by taking over this Lodge.
Breakfast and dinner were good. There is a common living room, small swimming pool and an honesty bar. Decoration of the rooms is cosy.
If you have a choice, this lodge provides more value for money than the state run rest camps inside the park. After exploring the southern part of Kruger you can easily drive towards the spectacular located Olifant's Rest Camp in the central part of the park in one day (at game-spotting-speed).
The British Lodge owners love cats (and dogs). Sue enjoys dealing with the customers, while her husband runs the kitchen.

Breakfast and dinner are available in our small licensed bar and restaurant from a lovely, varied menu of traditional South African and European cuisine. We do have some domestic pets on site...Two dogs and some cats...They are all very friendly and not at all dangerous!
