“Perfect base for exploring southern part of Kruger National Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

This lodge is a perfect base for exploring the southern part of Kruger, entering the park through the nearby Crocodile River Gate. It is run by a British couple that fell in love with SA when on holiday a few years ago, decided to fundamentally change their careers by taking over this Lodge.
Breakfast and dinner were good. There is a common living room, small swimming pool and an honesty bar. Decoration of the rooms is cosy.
If you have a choice, this lodge provides more value for money than the state run rest camps inside the park. After exploring the southern part of Kruger you can easily drive towards the spectacular located Olifant's Rest Camp in the central part of the park in one day (at game-spotting-speed).
The British Lodge owners love cats (and dogs). Sue enjoys dealing with the customers, while her husband runs the kitchen.

We stayed here in May 2012. There were't lots of other quests which was really nice. The owners and staff were very friendly and the food was good. Breakfast was also very good. Short way to Kruger National park. They also have lovely dogs! :)

Unfortunately we only had one short night at Trees Too before driving into Kruger. We had a very nice family room with an enormous bathroom. The kids had a small room with bunkbeds but there was privacy; our room was spacious and comfortable. Sue, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. We had dinner and breakfast there, which were good.

We got late and arrived at trees too at around 8.30 PM. This left us with very little time to spend here as we were leaving in the morning for Kruger. We had wanted to enter Kruger in the morning and this was the perfect place to spend the night.
Crocodile Bridge gate was just 10 km's away and the market was also nearby from where we could take groceries etc for the next 3 days. Sue and Martyn made us very comfortable and the kids (we had 3 kids in our group) loved the dogs. The kids wanted to stay another day here.
Being nature and animal lovers, Sue and Martyn were perfect to give us guidance regarding Kruger Park. Sue gave me a lot of useful tips. She even explained the routes on a map.
We all liked the feel of the place. Rooms were nice and spacious and kids loved the bunk beds in their room. The dining area next to the pool looked really nice and fresh. It was too cold for the pool but we had leisurely breakfast before we left.
We couldn't utilise their 'honesty' bar but did have a few drinks sitting outside our room.
We all would love to go back to Trees too when we visit Kruger next.

Well thanks for that. We were worried that you might be a bit fraught after your difficult journey courtesy of GPS... It was a delight to have you to stay - come for longer next time!

i would really recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit kruger park. Its really nice, the food is very good and the owners are lovely and very helpfull with planning your trip. Also for people who want to go camping inside the park: use this accomodation as a relaxed place to start after a long trip.

We had a great stay at Trees Too. Great location. Cool character. The owners and staff were lovely - they greeted us every day when we got home, just like we were houseguests. We spent nearly every evening relaxing at the outdoor restaurant by the pool enjoying a bottle of excellent red wine and their stories of giraffes or wildebeest invading their front porches or neighbors finding crocodiles in their swimming pools. They also organized some excellent day trips for us into Kruger Park and gave us tips on what to see on our trip to God's Window and Blyde River Canyon.

I feel I should say, though, that this was a very good 3 star hotel - great for young people and those willing to accept a little less luxury. Given the temperature, we were so happy to be there with (somewhat) functioning air conditioning and not in the camps in the park. The room and the bathroom were both a decent size. Our roof was the original thatched type, which smells a bit strange, but we got used to it after a day or two. The pool was also a bit green, but we still swam every day anyway. If you know you're the pickier type, I would probably choose a different place. We found it was all we needed and good value for money.

Hi Christine! Thanks for taking the time to review us. We really appreciate this. We really enjoyed having you both here. It was great to see you making the most of our own facilities in our small lodge, using our bar, restaurant and pool and full day game drives and bush walks too!

January is, as you know, our hottest and wettest month with temperatures reaching 50 degrees so the pool is in constant use. We also had some exceptional storms and severe flooding in January this year so high usage and climatic conditions affected the chemical balance and keeping the pool perfect was a full time job! Sorry the pool wasn't as perfect as usual for those few days. This also explains the very slight smell of our traditionally thatched roof for that very short period.

We hope that you will come back again one day..consider winter (May-September)when the temperature is perfect (25 degrees during the day), no rain and clear blue skies!

Best wishes!

Sue and Martyn
