“The best host ever?”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

Like others on this site, staying at TikayKilla has motivated me to create a tripadvisor login to write a review and to say to Francesco how grateful and how much Eddie and I enjoyed staying at your villa.
Starting with the place: extremely good value and affordable. Rooms are comfortable and reasonable space and good en-suite facilities. The grounds are very serene and it was very relaxing to just chill in the gardens.
On to Francesco: apart from the stay being great value, the main reason to stay is Francesco. He make everyone feel welcome; and helps setup everything you want to do in Mendoza. Francesco told us the best places to visit, booked tables for us, arranged cabs and even took us there and back to a local restaurant. Whatever time in the morning we need to leave for (we were up before 6am one day to get a bus over the Andes to Santiago- thoroughly recommend), Francesco was up and in his chef's hat making fantastic scrambled eggs, banana bread and coffee. It made the whole experience thoroughly relaxed and enjoyable, as a holiday should be. It's not exaggeration to say that on our first night there, there were chocolates on the pillow.
Thoroughly recommend to anyone, and Francesco, you have our contact details for when you are next in London.

TikayKilla (I love the name) is the best place to stay in Mendoza. It is actually located in Maipu, which is great for exploring many different wineries. The lodge gives you a nice, homey feeling and Soki (the dog) makes you feel like staying forever. Francisco is such a lovely person, and he goes out of his way to make all the guests feel welcome. Everyone hangs out together, drinking wine and just chatting after a day out visiting the wineries. We actually walked to a couple of the wineries as well as the Beer Garden (you have to visit the Beer Garden!). I really wish I could stay longer - TikayKilla is such a relaxing place. I will not stay anywhere else when I am in Mendoza.

Room Tip: They are all good, basic rooms.

If you are traveling to Mendoza, stay at this wonderful place in Maipu. Francisco was incredibly accommodating and extremely friendly, helping us out with anything we needed. We came one day early and I'm so glad that we did! My only regret is that I wish we could have stayed longer. Francisco, if you are ever in Chicago, Michael and I would love to see you again!

We had an excellent stay at Tikaykilla. It was a nice base for exploring Mendoza and the surrounding wine regions. Even though it is outside of Mendoza proper, it is still easy to get around with remis. Also there are several excellent restaurants within walking distance. Biking was also an excellent option to experience maipu.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the main house have better wifi

We loved our two nights at Tikaykilla.

Francisco was the most helpful, friendly person we encountered in all of Argentina! The perfect host!

Excellent value for money & great location on the biking wine route.

TikayKilla is a great place to stay for a couple of days to enjoy the wineries in the Maipu area. Plus points:
- Location is right in the middle of the wine route. And the lodge has an arrangement with one of the bike companies where they keep a few bikes there. Still have to hire but it saves a walk to the hire shop.
- Staff are super friendly. Elena was really keen to help us with whatever questions we had and even give us a lift to the end of the road to get buses etc.
- Rooms are very comfortable with lovely bathrooms.
- The dog is great fun!

Some suggestions:
- Breakfasts are fairly basic. It would have been nice to get some fruit and some fresh juice.
- We really enjoyed spending a lazy afternoon with a bottle of wine in the garden. Might be time to invest in some new garden furniture though.

HI Mark

Thanks for your review about your stay with us.

I'm glad you had a great time with us,

Thank you also for your suggestions. We are always serving Fresh Juice for Breakfast, sometimes we run out of our current supplier and we have to get an alternative not as good as that one. Regarding fruits, I agree and we are doing so.

Thanks again and kind regards,

Francisco.-

What makes Tikaykilla so great is Francisco. He is attentive and makes it feel like you are truly a guest in his home, more than a hotel. If you are after a relaxing retreat away from the city of Mendoza this place is for you. Very comfortable bed and great bathroom, just wish they had a pool for some of the hot days. Overall an excellent stay - would recommend and stay again!
