I stayed at Skargardshotellet twice while on business about 10 years ago. I loved the setting being near the harbor. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was traditional Swedish with herring, flatbreads, jams, yogurt, boiled eggs, and cereals. Interesting fact is that you can walk along the water to the only spot along the southeast coast where you can see the open sea through the archipelago.

I am writing this sitting on the balcony of our room overlooking the harbour and ferry port as it is raining and Him Indoors has gone back to sleep. This hotel is my idea of heaven. The room is comfortable and has a balcony, there is lots to look at (including in the middle of the night as a ferry to Gotland leaves from right opposite at 2.30am and if that is your thing you can watch all the cars and lorries board). (It might not suit everybody though)
The room is large and comfortable. A bit old fashioned and the furnishings and fittings are not all modern and smooth. The wifi is a bit hit and miss at times, and the bathroom is elderly too with a curtain over the bath (a bath, though!!) instead of a proper shower.
The hotel itself is decorated throughout with a shabby-chic nautical theme, beautifully. The breakfast room is large and amazing. You get your bread from a boat and pick up cold meat and cheese from planks balanced over some barrels. The staff are lovely and helpful.
Highly recommended unless you like a corporate modern hotel. If you prefer something individual and a bit different, this is for you.

If you are expecting something different but confortable for your stay, this is the place!
Good attention by the receptionist, kind and warm.
You can ask in advance about type of bed you need. The rooms are clean and make you feel like at home.
Lovely sauna available, you can book it since your arrival and decide the time that fits better.

Room tip: Rooms with balcony have a better view

Used the hotel as the base camp for a MTB-trip in the area. Fantastic surroundings with Torö, the coastline in general and very nice trails.

The hotel itself was OK. Rather good breakfast. Terrible coffee. The staff was generally friendly but in the breakfast area it felt mostly like you were an annoyance. Customer is king does not seem to be the rule unfortunately.

The rooms were good but nothing extraordinary. Comfy beds. A bit to much noise from the ferry harbor and street below.

Plus for the free charging pole.

The rooms could do with a lick of paint, and the bathrooms are in dire need of an update. But who cares when the lobby is so sweet my teeth ache from staying there! Very cute details, and despite the dated rooms, we are planning to go back! Cute and curious!
