“Great Hotel in a Really Cool Mexican Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2010

My wife and I have been living in SMA but decided to get away for a few days. We picked Mineral de Pozos - less than an hours drive, but like you've gone back in time. This is a wonderful little Hotel. The rooms - we had the Buena Vista suite were much better than the house we've been leasing in SMA (even though we've paid a lot for the rental house). The room came with breakfast - and the breakfast and the dinner at the Hotel were outstanding.
The owner and the GM were about the nicest people we've met in Mexico. And - we had our two dogs with us (a treat for everyone). I'd recommend this place to anyone interested in a real adventure. And - be sure you tour the Mines when you're in town (stay two nights). RB

I spent only one night in the superb Posada de las Minas - but I shall return!

The hotel could not have been better. I stayed in the Honeymoon Suite (Luna de Miel), quite inappropriately, and the attention to detail was unlike anything I have seen in other hotels. The private patio overlooking the primary church and town was large, well-furnished and a delight (also a great view of the church from the large bathroom - again, perfectly equipped).
The restaurant provided all sorts of possibilities: seating indoors, outdoors, in virtual privacy (breakfast was even possible in the room). The food was good and very reasonably priced. The best pancakes I have ever eaten! A real bar!!
A beautiful small cactus garden. Birds and flowers and fountains everywhere. The atmosphere is serene.
James, the manager, was very attentive and helpful.
I short: a superb, small (only 7 rooms) hotel. (But what is it doing in Pozos: a strange town, although its ruined condition does grow on one). I shall be back for a longer stay.

My boyfriend, Jason and I were treated to a night at Posada de las Minas by some of our friends. We had been vacationing in Guanajuato for the 10 days prior to our little trip to Pozos. Our friends who live in Guanajuato wanted to visit Pozos to look at architecture and such and asked us if we would like to join them. Wow, what an amazing place. Posada de las Minas is a sanctuary in the small town of Pozos. The rooms are decorated in such beauty. The bathroom was the best part. We stayed in the "Honeymoon" suite. It has a tiled bathtub and shower that are to die for.
The food and drinks in the restaurant are some of the best we had our whole vacation. The apple margaritas were spectacular.
The service is impecable and the owners are very accomodating and friendly
Pozos is a fascinating place. The town was built in the 1500's. It was a booming mining town at one time. Now much of it is ruins....which are very beauitful and picturesque. it is a wonderful town to "wander".
I would love to return ans stay a few more nights. And I would definitely stay at Posada de las Minas.

We love Posada de las Minas! Mineral de Pozos is definitely WAY off the map, but that is what we wanted and to find a gem like this was unbelievable. Pozos is about 45 min outside of San Miguel which is a great little overnight trip from San Miguel for a real Mexican mining history and some great mountain biking. You can rent horses from the Hotel, but we did not have time to do that but will on our next trip. The hotel will be our home base next time in stead of San Miguel, much more our speed for rest relaxation and a bit of real Mexico. Check out the Hotel's website all the pictures are 100% accurate.

This is a gorgeous property. Posada de las Minas is a hotel built out of the ruins of an elegant mansion. The owners of this hotel have not left a single detail unfinished. It is stunning.

We stayed in this hotel for two days while en route to Puebla, Mexico. We were in a bind because we were travelling with our dog and there are very few hotels in Mexico that will accept an animal. The owners of the Posada de las Minas graciously accepted our dog and even had the kitchen cook him some food. They exceeded our expecations in everyway.

But enough about the dog. This property is stunning. They owners have lovingly decorated the interiors and landscaped the exteriors. The result is a beautiful maze of outside garden spaces and indoor courtyards. The rooms and apartments are very tastefully done, each with a different theme. The courtyards are beautiful spaces and are a lovely place to read a book or even work. I can't say enough about what a good job they have done.

What else? The on-site restaurant is good (loved the local mole), the staff communicates well over email, the prices are reasonable, and the town is not too far from the main (cuota) highway.

Finally, I will say that we also toured Casa Montana which is a B&B in the same town that is featured prominently in many tour books. This is also a nice property, with very elegant rooms, but I do not think that the grounds or common space have anything on the Posada de las Minas. The spaces are so much more extensive (and interesting) than Casa Montana that I would always prefer the Posada over Casa Montana. Add to that a slight sewer-like smell in the Casa Montana garden and a slightly indifferent staff.

  • Liked — A beautiful renovation. If you love old buildings and character, this is your place
  • Disliked — Nothing. Maybe is not good for people who cannot do stairs.

The Central Mexican ex-silver mining town of Pozos, and specifically, the hotel "Posada de las Minas" are a real find for anyone wanting to get off the beaten camino. Everything about Posada de las Minas is creative, unique, and comfortable yet at the same time, superbly authentic.

From the ground up, David and Julie have poured their very considerable talents into the property and have come up with what my wife and I consider to be a world class boutique hotel. Each room has a unique theme and is a visual feast incorporating classic mexicana, spanish colonial, quirky contemporary, and rustic hacienda styling. Staff, food, and accommodations are all exquisite without being the least bit stuffy or overdone. Extras for the visitor to Pozos include numerous art galleries and the fascinating abandoned mines and other ruins around the town.

  • Liked — Unique. Visually rich. Culturally fascinating

My husband and I wanted a weekend away from our language studies in Guanajuato and the tourist scene of San Miguel. This was cure for sure. Our stay at Posada de las Minas was heaven. We wandered the restored hacienda and gardens for hours taking in each and every lovely detail. The food was fabulous especially for two picky vegetarians. Our room was fun and inviting with 2 sinks so we could both be ready to go at the same time for a change. We enjoyed our stay so much we asked for an extra night so we could spend more time exploring the ruins. The owner was so incredibly accomodating that he found secure parking for our way too big pick up truck loaded with antique furniture and allowed us to have our little dog stay. You just do not find places like this very often and trust me we're on the road alot and are not easily impressed.
Thanks again for a "real" vacation!
Holly and Dan
