This was our first holiday with our 6mth old and I'm so glad we chose La Grange du Moulin. Wendy and Chris are amazing hosts and have thought of
everything. From the time we arrived we felt welcome and knew we'd made the right choice. The cottages are fully equipped with everything you need for
children of all ages plus more for us adults ! Lots to do around the area and we look forward to coming back. Would highly recommend.
We visited Grange Du Moulin with our 3-yr-old son, following the recommendation of friends that have been multiple times. They were spot on - Grange Du Moulin is perfect! Chris and Wendy are so welcoming that they felt like old friends from the outset. Our gite was delightful, and contained toys and books for our toddler, a lovely touch. There is a great play area for the kids immediately in front of the accommodations, and pools with multiple layers of security to keep the children safe. Wendy and Chris put on a number of "events" for both adults and kids - communal BBQ, t-shirt painting, even a teddy bears picnic! Their knowledge of the area is enormous (as you'd expect from a family who have lived in the area for many years with such enthusiasm) and Chris's previous incarnation as a wine guru is also very useful! :-) A special mention for their two boys - who were both friendly, welcoming and helpful beyond their years.
With a car (a requirement) there is much to do in the area - a fantastic zoo, aquarium, local markets, the lovely La Rochelle, and a nearby time with a huge park.
We had a superb holiday, it couldn't be faulted in any way. The three of us were all gutted to be leaving at the end of our week and I wish we'd booked for longer.
Wendy and Chris - thank you!
Our 7th year in a row - what more do we need to say ! Beautiful location, lots to do both on and off site. Chris and Wendy really do go the 'extra mile' to make it a holiday for the whole family - adults included ! Thank you for your wonderful, warm hospitality and see you again next year...
The Ball family have had a wonderful family holiday with our children. From the moment we arrived Wendy and Chris made us feel so welcome and the girls were so excited to see all the activities in the garden to play on. The girls loved the t-shirt painting and pottery painting and wanted to participate both weeks. We had a fabulous family experience of all of us scuba diving together and making special memories. We truly have had a super holiday and the friendships the girls have made was lovely to see.
We have booked for next year & can't wait.
A lovely family friendly holiday site. A great opportunity to meet with other families and allow children to make good friends. The pools are well maintained, clean with lots of toys to use. Activities such as the fabric painting and teddy bear picnic are lovely as extras for the children as well as a nice chance to mix with other guests. The garden has lots of toys to use and a very successful trampoline. The pamper session for ladies was also wonderful and with lots of giggles !
A super week ! We've tried camping, 5* resorts, independent villas but Wendy and Chris have found the perfect solution for tired parents with energetic young children. Ours made great friends, played all day in the garden and (warm) pool allowing us to properly relax and have enough personal space whilst socialising with other parents a bit when we wanted. A glorious region of France which we've also loved exploring. Wendy and Chris manage their gites very efficiently, are incredibly hard working and offer a great service. Many thanks, we've re booked for next year !

We stayed at La Grange du Moulin for a week in August 2016 with our two children aged five and three. We stayed in Ruche gite, which had a spacious kitchen and living area that remained cool in the 37C heat. It had wifi and was very child-friendly, with shutters that kept the bedrooms very dark, window catches, toilet seats etc. The setting is beautiful, with lots of butterflies flying around, and at night it was lovely to go to the back of the cottage to look over the field and see the stars. The children enjoyed the playground and particularly the swimming pool, where our 5yo got to try scuba diving and we had a great refresher dive. Chris and Wendy and their two sons are very friendly and helpful and have put a lot of effort into making it such a welcoming and family-friendly place to stay. The website and folder in the cottage are very informative and Wendy also emailed lots of useful information before we arrived.
I hadn't been to the Charente Maritime area before and enjoyed seeing the countryside, including on the vineyard walk led by Chris. We also visited the market at Aulnay, La Rochelle, where we went to the aquarium and the tower, and the Ile de Re (cycled around in 35C heat and had a very welcome swim in the sea!)
It is around an hour's drive from the coast (further if you want to go out to the Ile de Re or Oleron), so probably not an ideal location if you just wanted to go to the beach every day, but there are plenty of inland things to see and do that are closer. There are lots of ideas of places to go in the folder in the cottage or on the blog. We ended up doing quite a bit of driving, but the traffic was usually light and the roads very well-maintained.
We hired bikes for five days from Bikehiredirect.com who deliver to the cottage. However in hindsight I would have just hired them on the Ile de Re (a cycling paradise with bike hire shops everywhere) or maybe just for a day. The countryside is good for cycling (fairly flat and not much traffic) but it was very hot during our stay and although you could have a good circular ride, there are not many destinations that are within cycling-with-young-children distance.
