Coffee Bay is well worth a visit, situated on the spectacular Wild Coast
The location of this hotel is fantastic and we had a most enjoyable stay.
Our room was clean, comfortable and had an amazing view. The buffet meals were good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Alex the manager was very attentive and his knowledge of the area is good. He sent us out each day with directions to some fantastic spots. We had a 4 x 4 which enabled us to get to see more of this spectacular coast. If you don’t have a 4 x 4 I did see the hotel offered tours to most of the nicest points. There are also great walking trails. This is a very beautiful part of the country and the hole in the wall is a must see.

Having read the 'Seven classic Wild Coast Family Hotels' article in the April 2014 issue of the Go! Magazine, we decided to spend a week at the Ocean View Hotel, Coffee Bay. When calling en-route for GPS co-ordinates, no one was able to assist. In this day & age, really? The rooms were poor and could see the hotel had fallen on hard times in the past. The hotel in general is old looking and without keeping the windows open in the room, there was a horrible musty smell. New curtains and linen were evident but some sheets were threadbare. Some of the staff were really friendly and others even after a week, still didn't engage or make eye contact with you. The food on the whole was good but after a week you get to see what wasn't eaten last night for dinner is cooked up into a pie for lunch the next day. Considering it was advertised as a family hotel, the play area was old and unsafe. Missing springs on the trampoline and sheared & rusted bolts on the wooden jungle gym. Given the beautiful location you could perhaps forgive them the above but on our second to last night, we woke to an intruder climbing half way through the window into our room. This was the only window without burglar bars. Thankfully the intruder left without incident. There are no telephones in the rooms. On calling the hotel numbers from our cell phone, no one answered. Guests in the adjacent room came to investigate on hearing shouting from our room. The whole incident in our opinion was played down and no one really wanted to discuss it. It could have been handled so much better and showed a lack of customer care & service. The room in which we stayed and the adjacent rooms are open to a small hill and there is no fence stopping opportunists coming down the hill and up to your window. It is disappointing that it turned out the way it did. I don't believe we will be back unless the security is addressed appropriately.

Room Tip: Rooms to the left of the main hotel have a perimeter fence but back onto a road which is the main ro...

Just driving through SA yet again, decided to call at coffee Bay and stayed here. Made you very welcome, service excellent as usual in South Africa, Rooms are average but clean, breakfast and dinner superb, fantastic range and choice - you are absolutely spoilt on the food front. Walked out the gates onto the beach to watch a storm at sea, then sun, a yacht surfers and dolphins playing in the surf. Fantastic out of the way spot. Great views, peaceful, quiet, relaxing loved it...will go back

Room Tip: I think all rooms will be comparable, clean, but as usual on the south coast humidity does take its...

We did a trip to nearby Hole in the Wall (a must do) and then planned the Ocean View for lunch on our way back. Unfortunately we only got there at about 2.30 and decided to rather have a light lunch in the Beach bar.The barman told us that they do not serve at the beach bar but to go to the main restuarant for a Buffett.
I went up and had a look and decided that it was a bit much and a bit expensive for a snack, so asked a very lovely waiter if she could pull together a plate of cheese and biscuits. I was not over bothered at the cost, but set the budget at a couple of hundred rand. She said ok and I headed back to the beach bar.
An hour later nothing arrived, no news from the barman who sat at the bar eating a big meal so I hiked back up where I was confronted by a very rude couple who must be the owners who told me that if we want to eat we have the buffet or nothing at all, turned their back on me and walked off. There was only one other couple eating in the restuarant.
What a poor business approach and how rude. To think there are very few places to eat in the area and everyone does not want a full Buffett ( which was way overpriced for what I saw) i certainly will not be going back. Take a packed lunch, and enjoy one of the many beaches and places in the area as there is nothing special about this dusty looking place that would attract me back.

A few weeks ago some friends and I were running down the Wild Coast and one of our group got very ill and had to stop. We were without transport and the team at Oceanview kindly did a 3 hour round trip to come and collect our friend and deliver her safely to Oceanview for the night. There was no need to do this, but they did it with such grace and kindness. True Wild Coast hospitality!

Room Tip: Always get a room with a fan and sliding doors - the warm nights need as much ventilation as possibl...

My husband and I were very worried when we read all the negative reviews about Ocean View Hotel. Well obviously you just can't please some people! We have been here from the 31 January and from the moment we arrived we had nothing but helpfulness and friendliness. Our luggage was fetched from the car and taken to our lovely airy room over looking a long expanse of beach with the waves rolling in. The whole time we have been made to feel like part of the family by all and sundry, even the dogs. Sophie one of the dogs even sleeps on our verandah.
We could not get our kettle to work - through our own stupidity! Within 10 minutes of reporting the problem to Reception someone came to check the problem.
The food is to die for. Three times a day we get a scrumious buffet put out for us. Always something new and exciting to try.
This morning Alex the manager came marching over to our room! Oops! What had we done? He was taking a Scotish couple to Hole in the Wall and he wanted to know why our names were not down as he knew we wanted to go. We had a wonderful informative trip. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Bill and I would love to come back here because it is a most relaxing holiday. Nothing to do just relax and unwind.

Room Tip: Any room from 1 - 8 sea facing
