A few weeks ago some friends and I were running down the Wild Coast and one of our group got very ill and had to stop. We were without transport and the team at Oceanview kindly did a 3 hour round trip to come and collect our friend and deliver her safely to Oceanview for the night. There was no need to do this, but they did it with such grace and kindness. True Wild Coast hospitality!

My husband and I were very worried when we read all the negative reviews about Ocean View Hotel. Well obviously you just can't please some people! We have been here from the 31 January and from the moment we arrived we had nothing but helpfulness and friendliness. Our luggage was fetched from the car and taken to our lovely airy room over looking a long expanse of beach with the waves rolling in. The whole time we have been made to feel like part of the family by all and sundry, even the dogs. Sophie one of the dogs even sleeps on our verandah.
We could not get our kettle to work - through our own stupidity! Within 10 minutes of reporting the problem to Reception someone came to check the problem.
The food is to die for. Three times a day we get a scrumious buffet put out for us. Always something new and exciting to try.
This morning Alex the manager came marching over to our room! Oops! What had we done? He was taking a Scotish couple to Hole in the Wall and he wanted to know why our names were not down as he knew we wanted to go. We had a wonderful informative trip. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Bill and I would love to come back here because it is a most relaxing holiday. Nothing to do just relax and unwind.

Room Tip: Any room from 1 - 8 sea facing

..... in a stunning location. Step thru the gate from the sloping gardens and you're right on a great safe swimming beach with good surf and a scenic backdrop. Steeped in history, this hotel has slowly been developed to a standard way beyond what one would expect in such a relatively isolated location. All facilities were very clean and well maintained. Rooms come fully equipped, no hassles whatsoever. A large upstairs dining area with outdoor - newly covered - deck offers sweeping ocean views. Stayed in both ocean view as well as garden view rooms, both offering privacy and a quiet good night's sleep. Opted for full-board, with great buffet breakfasts, lunches and dinners provided, with lots of variety. A great informal and relaxed atmosphere, with friendly and helpful staff all around. Patrons include a mix of local and international clientele. I had only planned an overnight s/over, but stayed for three. Forgot my credit card upon checking out, staff and management were extremely helpful in forwarding it to Joburg well in time for my international departure a few days later. Thanks to everyone at the OVH for a wonderful stay - you are truly hospitality professionals. Will certainly return.

Clean and very pleasant hotel with gorgeous views of the beach. Food was excellent throughout the trip. Try to stay on a Sunday night to experience the seafood extravaganza. Staff were very friendly. A trip to the hole in the wall is a must whilst visiting. You will find yourself stopping your car for vow, horses, goats, pigs, dogs, and sheep on the drive there. All part of the experience

We arrived here for a 2 night stay. Within 10 minutes we had decided to extend by 1 extra night. We wish we could add more nights. Next time.

Modest property, friendly service, laid-back atmosphere, excellent food. And right on a truly wonderful beach.

Thanks to owners, managers, chefs and all other staff.

We'll be back.

We could not have chosen a better place for our family summer break. Our reviewers have mentioned it was right on the beach. One needs to add, right on quite a nice beach. Sheltered by cliffs it has long rolling waves, ideal for body boarding, those learning to surf, and kids. No currents, no sudden drops, no hidden rocks. The whole beach is like this, not only the life saver's demarcated area, meaning one can swim right in front of the hotel. The hotel is revamping the rooms. While the results so far are a huge improvement, I really hope they keep the rates reasonable. Food was actually quite okay for the price. Not out of this world, but okay and probably exactly what we required. We would actually prefer it that way, rather than trying to impose a five star regime and spoiling the accessibility and affordibility. Staff were friendly, and even management warmly greeted guests at meal times. My gripes don't specifically concern the hotel, but as the largest employer in the village, I'm hoping they can help to influence it: See, the locals are for the most very friendly, but some on the beach were behaving in a really odd and and off putting manner. Some teenagers on the beach, who were playing with their cell phones, would grab my 4 year old or 6 year old girls by the hand, pose for pics taken with their cell phones next to the kid, and then tug at them to go with them who knows where, I'll assume more pics with them. These youths were quite persistent, and often English was poor, so we often we had to tell them rather aggresively that this was now quite enough pic taking with a (by now, panicking) little girl for one day. We are very easy going, but I can imagine it would freak some people out a lot. It is obviously better to manage away from the "crowded" area, which is the designated swimming area. As mentioned before, the whole beach is well suited to swimming. One can spend days just lazing in our around the hotel, but we did think Hole-in-the-Wall was quite a worthwhile excursion.

We were told that Coffee Bay is an absolutely amazing location and that the Ocean View is a delightful hotel, the location is indeed superb, one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to, and I've travelled alot.

The Hotel is an absolute disgrace to say the least. The food is overcooked and bland, absolutely no taste whatsoever. The Room had an awful smell from 'damp' carpets, no aircon and was dirty when we checked in. The bathroom was disgusting, an old shower fitting in the bath that just trickled, old blankets in the cupboards that must date back to the 80's.

The staff were friendly but we felt uncomfortable sitting in the bar after dinner with the bar lady in her 50's and should have been at home, no personality whatsoever, and certainly no guest interaction, we felt guilty that we were keeping her up so left early to bed.

What a sad and dismal experience, this property has HUGE potential and could be amazing with some money being spent on the property and clearly new management whom could impliment some training. All department's are severly lacking in everything from facilities to staff training. I hope I will never experience this type of property again.

The owners really need to look at the pricing and the product, it simply is daylight robbery staying in these conditions.
