“Very good, good value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at Ocean view at the last minute. It turned out to be a very good choice. They have very friendly staff, clean accommodation and decent food. It is beautifully situated and I would definitely stay here again.

As a side note, I would rather stay coffee bay side and not hole in the wall, if you are choosing. Hole in the wall has become way too touristy and the locals are very pushy making it an unpleasant experience there"

The hotel is a stone's throw from the beach. The rooms are clean and well furnished. Each has a television set and a fridge. The views are amazing. This is an isolated place and the rates include three meals a day. The food is good and there is always an adequate choice. The beach is good for swimming and walking.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a good sea view.

This rustic hotel is a typical Wild Coast establishment - simple, unassuming and laid back. The view is excellent, the staff warm and friendly and the rooms very basic but clean. The rooms are equipped with small TV's, Water and Tea and Coffee facilities. Unfortunately the bed is overdue for an upgrade and the shower is an over bath hand shower.. Management is perhaps a bit too laid back and service, and staff, are often missing. The simplest things can ruin a hotel stay, and in my case it was being told my room had no key. Whilst I am sure the Hotel can feel quite casual about this stone age security, having secured my signature absolving them of all liability, it left me very uncomfortable. The very inconvenient result was I had to use may car as a safe. Although the staff were very sweet, they lacked training in some basic skills, such as delivering the main course whilst you're halfway through the starter. The food was generally reasonable too poor - For example hot Breakfast consisted of a plate of pre-fried eggs, a bowl of what can only be described as bacon fat, mushy tomatoes and tinned mushrooms. Dinner was OK, but the wine, at markups on retail of over 300%, is very overpriced for this quality of establishment. Overall this hotel is over priced. It is a traditional old Wild Coast family hotel, and should be priced in the same region as hotels such as Trennery's. It's pricing is much closer to Umngazi River Bungalows, which is quite simply way out of Ocean View's league

Road to Coffee Bay been repaired and was much improved!
Hotel under new ownership and it shows!
Excellent food and service.
Room with amazing views and the beach a short walk away.
A weekend getaway where you can really relax.
Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the front where the views are amazing - also has table and chairs just outside...

The road to Coffee Bay certainly leaves a lot to be desired, but news is that the potholes are being dealt with!!! But the drive is certainly worth it!! The Ocean View Hotel has undergone a complete revamp under the careful and experienced hands of Ian and Lyn Crawford!!
The Rooms were neat and fresh, bathrooms bright and clean, which is always a good start to a holiday.
The food was amazing and it is hard to resist the many different choices offered. Good wholesome food was served each and every day.
The staff were very friendly and attended to any request efficiently and helpfully - this was such a pleasant experience ....
The position of the Hotel is certain one of the best on the Wild Coast - the views from the rooms is amazing and I was fortunate enough to see dolphins playing in the waves, apparently a regular occurrence!!
Will definitely return to this place of beauty to enjoy the experience of the Wild Coast and Ocean View Hotel .....

Rustic hotel perfectly located on isolated beach. Be aware it takes about an hour to get there once you have turned off the N2 national road. It is best not to drive the road at night as there are many many many potholes! Once in coffee bay though, it is unbelievably peaceful. The owners of the Hotel are friendly and helpful and you will soon feel at home. Go with the right mindset and it will be an amazing experience.

My wife and I took over friend’s reservation at the hotel as they were unable to attend. We needed a short getaway and though this sounded ideal. First bad impression, the road or what is left of it, potholes everywhere, I mean POTHOLES but I must say they were busy resurfacing the road.

Once in the Hotel property the scenery changed and what a relaxing atmosphere. The on-suit room was on the old side, everything was clean but old. The service and food was excellent, especially the food. The manager when out of his way to make it as comfortable as possible for all, even drove about 200km through the POTHOLES to collect ice when the ice-machine broke unexpectedly.

Had a nice chat with the manager and the hotel is under new management and hopefully soon under new ownership with great plans for the hotel. Hope this happens soon or maybe it already did at this stunning place can do with a facelift. I would pay double if the rooms and especially the bathrooms are re-done.

Will pop-in again if renovations has taken place.

Room Tip: Rooms on top of the restuarant has excellent ocean view Rooms on the ground, Durban side, nice gras...
