Cathy and John are congenial, helpful and accomodating hosts. The B&B is in a beautiful spot and the tropical birds are plentiful. The location is very quiet and only a few minutes drive from town. I was travelling alone and had a very flexible itinerary. John suggested some great spots to visit.

John & Catherine are great hosts. They prepare you an incredible breakfast (included in the price), followed by tours of their backyard which also happens to be a forest with it's own wildlife (howler monkeys, in our case).

You're greeted by three Great Danes as you pull up on to the property. They are quite friendly once they get to meet you.

The place has incredible views of the lake and Volcan Arenal.

There are quite a few attractions around the area; John & Catherine will gladly give you directions & recommendations..

Chalet Nicholas is a beautiful B & B in a peaceful and lush garden setting. The comfortable rockers outside are ideal for relaxing and watching the many magnificent birds that visit the grounds all day long. John feeds them about 50 bananas per day! John and Cathy are friendly hosts with interesting stories to tell. Our hike with John on their 15 acres and into the Forest Reserve was wonderful - highly recommended. Cathy's breakfasts were absolutely delicious, especially the macademia nut pancakes and endless fresh fruit. We are going back!

Cathy & John open there home to travellers with recommendations, insight and advice, and genuine hospitality that is hard to find these days! Along with a great breakfast in the morning. Its a good location to explore the Arenal area from, with a relaxing hill top sancuary to return to...I highly recommend their B&B. I especially appreciated Cathy's savy real estate advice!

Cathy and John are great! I have never before been a fan of bird-watching, but sitting on their porch and watching the plethora of birds that come to feed on ripe bananas 3 feet in front of you was real fun. - and John knows them all and has great stories. Cathy's pancakes for breakfast were amazing and we were not hungry again until the next evening :o). Thanks a lot for enjoyable stay - we will definitely stop by again when we are in the area!

If you're planning a trip to The Arenal area, well, quite frankly, why wouldn't you...a stop at Chalet Nicholas is an absolute must. Everything about this delightfully charming B and B is first rate-from the cordial and informative proprietors, to the arresting panaromic vistas just outside your bedroom windows.

I can't imagine a better bang for your buck than this locale. The pancakes, free walking tours, porchside rocking chairs, and loving animals make this a not to be missed place to hang your hat temporarily during your stay.

My boyfriend and I stayed for one night at Chalet Nicholas and had a wonderful time. Cathy and John were welcoming, helpful, and incredibly friendly and accommodating. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the property is absolutely beautiful. We left after one night to be closer to La Fortuna, as the chalet is about half an hour away, but we should have stayed instead! Chalet Nicholas was much more charming, quiet, and comfortable. The gardens are gorgeous and we had a beautiful hike through the forest behind the house (though some monkeys did not appreciate the intrusion onto their territory). Cathy served us a delicious breakfast in the morning. Highly recommended.
