I first stayed at Surf Side back in 07 and was quite satisfied. So despite the negative reviews below I thought give it another try.
I didn't see much of the reception staff but when I did they were pleasant enough. I sometimes chatted with the owner whom I remembered from my previous stay.
I had a room on the first floor with my own little seating area out front. This was quite social and I would inevitably end up talking to other guests who were also sitting outside. The room was an ok size with a double bed, table, armchair, chest of drawers and tv. A/C worked well. Wouldn't have minded a blanket on the bed as there was only a sheet. I would also have liked a lamp for more intimate lighting, there was only the bright ceiling fan. Wifi worked 'ok'.
Bathroom was compact with a decent supply of hot water, not that I really needed it. There was also a kitchen complete with cooking implements. Though I only used the fridge.
The cost was around £40/$60. On check out day you can pay half of this to keep the room until 6pm if you should have a late flight.
The bar located next door was pretty noisy until around 1am. I was woken by the sound of hammering and sawing on a couple of mornings. Around 9am. Totally unacceptable. These works were happening within the hotel grounds so must have been sanctioned by the owners. But remember: consideration of the fact that other people are sleeping is a first world concept.
There is also a small swimming pool. As has been pointed out it's not the one in the picture.
