The hotel was full of character, a little old and shabby but i liked that. The room was very clean with an enormous bed, fridge in the room so you could put your own drinks in. We found it a bit annoying that housekeeping seemed to be done at a different time every day, and quite often mid afternoon when we were wanting to go for a siesta! The turn down service in the evenings was a nice touch though.
Food was very nice, lovely fresh fish every lunchtime on the outside grill and how lovely not to have 'buffet style' meals in the evening- there were a few choices at dinner every night and although it does get a bit boring after a while it is very nice food. We went out for dinner a few times, there is a restaurant called Dillons very near to the resort, gorgeous food.
All the staff were pleasant and chatty, if you took the time to speak to them, we got the feeling that a lot of the time they are looked down upon and ordered about by some of the other guests.
You do need to be mindful that the pace of life in Tobago is much more chilled than ours is and if you order a drink you may be waiting ten minutes or so for it!
There was no evening entertainment but we were happy with the peace and quiet.
The pool was rubbish but the beach is on the doorstep and is glorious, take your snorkel with you as there are amazing fish around the reef!
The different species of bird is fabulous, you sit on your balcony and see lots of beautiful colours and the little black grakels and brightly coloured bananaquits make breakfast more amusing with their attempts to steal some tidbits.
I loved Coco Reef, wouls go back anytime!

A one week break when it was not full. Absolutely delightful and very restful.

Tobago is a wonderful, unassuming island. The people are very friendly; the island is unsophisticated and hasn't been seduced by wealthy Europeans buying up and developing the place. It is a bit like stepping back in time, and the people are the first Caribbean's we have come across who have a great balance to life and attitude.

The hotel was very comfortable; the food was varied and of good quality. We had special dietary needs (gluten free and diabetic) and the staff could not have been more attentive or punctilious to make sure we had no issues or problems.

The all inclusive package worked well for us with good quality house wines and spirits. The beach is in a small lagoon with a breakwater that makes it a quiet, calm haven where you can sit and pass the time of day, whilst small fish swim around you.

The hotel's sailing boats have been damaged and not replaced so if you go for the sailing, check if they have replaced them. The lagoon is great for kids; but equally out of school holidays it is virtually a kid free zone.

Downsides? The pool needs cleaning as it looks cloudy? Boats need replacing. Wifi and mobile coverage needs sorting. If you need to keep in touch with home, be prepared for some frustration.

Summary = a great place to rest and relax, particularly out of school holidays. If you have kids, also a great place if they like sun, sea and sand. The staff were lovely.

I was a bit apprehensive when I went to this resort after reading the reviews a week before we left home. It was a relief that we had not experienced anything or anyone unpleasant as mentioned in many of the reviews. The room we were given was spacious, comfortable and has beautiful view of the bay. We would like to thank Mr. Eric Feniet and his staff for making our stay memorable. The staff members we met are very helpful and polite even though our experience of the service in Bacchanals was not as good as at breakfast in Tamaras.

The staff at the front desk were courteous when we arrived but that was the end of it. The room was poor for a hotel of this price. The air condition was an OLD half dead one and positioned so it blows directly at your head on the bed. There was no blade for the vent, just a wide open space. It took about an hour to cool the room, and that was at night. The staf at the restuarant was impolite to the point of being rude. I was made to feel as if i was intruding during their dinner and breakfast time, and the food was not one would expect from a two star hotel much less one reputed to be four star. The room furniture was old and looked broken down, the TV remote did not work and the TV itself was another WW 2 relic. The bathtub was scratched and looked grimy. the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable would be an understatement. Hasving seen what the mattress looks like I shudder at what the pillows were infected with. Really a horrible experience. I will never recommend this hotel. I was hoping to impress my companion, by taking her some place classy...instead this place felt cheap and classless. I left feeling disappointed and poorer for the experience. How these people win awards I will never know. It cannot be for service, dining experience, room quality. This hotel is over rated and over priced. The owners need to pay an undercover visit to this hotel and have their own real experience of this hellhole.

I will never stay there again and certainly would not recommend this Hotel to anyone. The Bed was uncomfortable my bofriend left there with a serious back ache...when we were leaving we saw their domestic staff removing a mattress from one of the other room...it was an eye opeining expereince to see what it looked like....at breakfast the black birds were misbehaving making breakfast dining unpleasant....dinner menu very limited...restaurant staff seemed annoyed when we got there for dinner.

Room Tip: Make sure the bed is comfortable.....
