Tropikist Beach Hotel & Resort
Ranked #2 of 3 Hotels in Crown Point
Reviewed July 17, 2012

Stayed for 2 weeks at the Tropikist in June. This is the third time myself & my husband have stayed here in the last ten years. OK so the hotel is a little bit run down but everywhere is beautifully clean and any little problems were sorted immediately. The staff were all brilliant and made us feel very welcome. The bar staff, Junior, Gary & Ryan were all very efficient and friendly and Bernadette one of the waitresses is a star. We have always gone in June for our Wedding Anniversary and hope we will visit again very soon. The Manager Anderson is extremely friendly and is working very hard to remedy any problems and we wish him luck in his venture. We would recommend this Hotel to anybody.

Room Tip: The new Block have the best views.

We stayed here for one night before flying home. The airport and Crown Point beach are within walking distance. There are other hotels in the area but when we were planning our trip, this is the only hotel I could find that was close to the airport and on the beach.

The beach, however, was not a place I was interested in spending time because of the sand fleas. You certainly cannot swim here because of rough water and rocks. Your best option is to walk to the Crown Point beach.

The resort has seen better days. I'm sure that at one point this was a really nice resort but it is tired and worn, now. We enjoyed the freeform pool with surrounding gardens, mini waterfall, and swim-up bar. Plant matter from the garden lands in the pool. This didn't bother me but it bothered my husband.

We had supper at the restaurant/bar which had nice decor, service, and good food. It was a reasonable price.

Breakfast was served buffet style at a different restaurant with all the basics available. Small birds would sqeeze themselves through the netting and hang around looking for crumbs, etc (this did not bother us). Breakfast was included with the room.

The standard room was clean but the furniture was worn out. For instance, the drawers on the bureau were broken. We were here for one night and didn't unpack anything so this was not a problem. It was clean, secure, and the airconditioner, toilet, and shower worked properly. Speaking of the toilet, we thought that it was broken, but you just have to heave on the lever really hard to flush it. I mean, really heave on it and all the toilets are that way. Problems were addressed right away by the staff. It was a reasonable price compared to other hotels in the area.

Stayed one week all inclusive and had a wonderful time. Anderson, the manager, was very willing to provide anything not on the usual menu and any complaints were dealt with promptly. Both Junior at the bar and Gary who was everywhere were efficient and very friendly, as were all the staff I dealt with. The menu is a bit limited with 3 choices for lunch & dinner but you get what you pay for and the food was well cooked and tasty. The grounds and pools are kept very clean and there is a nice small sandy beach below the breakfast room. This is a 'caribbean' experience - not 5 star - and I would definitely return. Tremendous value for money.

Room Tip: Stayed in the number 300's which overlook the sea.The other rooms have garden or pool view.

The hotel hired two new members of staff and management put these women together as a team to clean the rooms (instead of splitting them up). Three of the rooms we booked had goods stolen (and some subsequently recovered by the excellent police in Tobago): iPod, headphones, lingerie (!!), mobile phone, clothes etc. And the rooms were not cleaned.

Housekeeping manager convieniently took the week off "ill" when we reported the thefts and police became involved.

We spent a morning in a Tobago Court giving evidence against the thieves - not a relaxing experience.

I'm sorry to say that this hotel also has an appearance of being underinvested - a shame given a decent location. The hotels beachfront is not functional as it hasn't been prepared for customers to bathe in... Glass and sharp stones are in the floor, so you need to walk on the road to the next beach. Birds are allowed to defecate on the tables and chairs at breakfast... Would it be too much to ask that they replace the net once in a while? Food was repetitive and the waiting staff were not always friendly.

Malfunctioning showers in two of the three rooms (very dated), windows rusted open (so mosquitos can come in), and an unclean pool. Doors with gaps underneath allow reptiles and roaches in (we found a cockroach INSIDE one of our mattresses).

The good news is that there are excellent hotels very close by, so tourists can still make the most of this beautiful and enchanting island. A special mention to the local police who were friendly, amazingly efficient and speedy, and who made the process bearable... Government clearly values tourism.

Stayed at the Tropikist recently, perfectly situated near the airport & beach.Crown Point has all you need , bars shops etc.. within walking distance .
Staff are very friendly,Anderson the Manager is a real asset to the place.
Room was fine , two pools both good , bar has a superb view & while you eat your beakfast you are watching the waves lapping the beach.
If you are looking for a good value hotel , nothing too fancy but clean homely & perfectly situated then look no further than this one.

Room Tip: Possibly select room with balcony , as ground floor rooms might have a problem with creepy crawlies...

I booked last minute and got a steal of a deal with Alpha Rooms. OK, so the hotel could do with a facelift, a lick of paint here and there, but its rated as a 3* and not a 5* so thats what you get .... the staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you. The Hotel Manager I think was called Michael, he can't do enough for you. The food is not the best, but its edible. The pool area is lovely, always loungers available, a lovely little private beach attached. Honestly for a relaxing break and value for money its fine. Minutes walk from the airport, ideal. Minutes from Store Bay and about 10mins from Pigeon Point. Also Crown Point hotel next door and you can use their facilities free of charge if you wanted change of scenery. I would recommend you go B&B only, not all inclusive, as food is a bit boring, and only local spirits served, not a big selection.
