If you are looking for a nice, comfortable beach club stay, relaxing by the shore which is just a short walk from your hotel room, don't stay here. The beach is not for laying on, the water is not for swimming/playing in. This place was a major disappointment to my family. It is well away from any place of interest within walking distance, so you have to hire a driver for going anywhere beyond the 3 places (beaches only) the hotel will take you on a regularly scheduled ride. The cable service didn't work for the first 3 days, they charged crazy rates for internet (one device per charge), the 'special' dinners were very expensive and not very good, the service was poor, many of the the outlets did not work, the hot tub and pool were in poor condition, and they charged the worst exchange rate!

This is an older property that the manager is working hard to maintain. It is neat, clean, well-tended, and the staff is friendly. There were (amazingly) no insects in the unit at any time during the week we were there. The grills, hot tubs, playground, and bar are in good shape. The beach chairs are always out and available, though the water is too rough to swim. The views at sundown are wonderful. There is a free shuttle to a couple of good beaches. The property is next to the airport, but given the small planes and day-time flight schedules we were never bothered by the noise. There is a convenience store on site that has reasonable prices and good selection relative to the larger island grocery stores.

This was our first time in Tobago and we exchanged via RCI.
Basic overview: The resort does and has everything as it says on the tin, but it is suffering only slightly from a lack of TLC in the maintenance and paintwork department but in no way did this detract from our experience which was great.
We saw other guests apartments and they were of a similar standard to ours so no issues there.
Regards the disco from next door, we were next to it and it was only two nights until 02.00 and one at midnight but hey you are on holiday (in Tobago) lie in the next day!
Airport, in all honesty did not really notice it.

From our pick up at the airport, check in, bar etc. to departure the team were full of local knowledge which was always served up with a smile and banter, even on changeover days!
Have to say we did not use the restaurant (reputation not great) as we either used the BBQ's which the team lit and cleaned afterwards or the kitchen inside the apartments as well as eating out.
Housekeeping very good with plenty of clean sheets and rooms with plenty of hot water, toiletries and cleaned up very well.
Laundry facilities either apartment and site (very reasonable cost) very good.

Tours from Crown Point, well priced and informative and entertaining from Leroy and his colleagues.
Entertainment better than average particularly the calypso and African drums.
The pool and in particular the hot tubs, excellent (and cleaned and chlorine checked regularly) after a really hard day on the beach or on a tour.
The onsite grocery very well stocked but a supermarket circa fifteen minutes away.

Tips:
1) Use the Tourist Information office just outside the airport, again really helpful with good tips.
2) Stalls veg and food. If no prices are listed ask first, inevitably as in a lot of resorts the "tourist"
sign stencilled on the forehead sometimes can lead to higher prices than the locals pay. So listen whilst you are queuing.
3) Use the local bus and take a trip to Scarborough and walk up to the Fort. Long walk and avoid midday aka Mad Dogs and Englishmen!!
4) Best Beach. Store Bay. Beach all sand, food and drinks at edge, glass bottom boats and only ten minutes walk.

So here we go, would we go back? Yes gladly.

My husband and I stayed for a week on a timeshare exchange. When we first arrived, my jaw dropped; the place was old, in urgent need of upkeep and in a poor location, right next to the airport. Also, the beach was not well suited for swimming, unless you did not mind getting scraped by coral.
On the good side, the staff was very accommodating and made every effort to make you feel comfortable. There was a shuttle that could take you free of charge to nearby beaches and bring you back at designated times. It was possible to arrange for tours and excursions from the resort. I would recommend the snorkling tour, even if you do not snorkle. It was a very pleasant trip to the other side of the island and there were a few very nice lookout points. Do not go to "Sunday School" it is a ripoff and not very safe.
Overall our experience was pleasant and we met great people that were also ther on a time share. But, this is not a place I would consider visiting again.

We stayed here for two weeks on a timeshare exchange. Our room was a studio which was not particularly spacious, but was adequate enough not to feel claustrophobic. It had a full kitchen and space for a Murphy-type pull down double bed plus two single beds, although the thought of cramming 4 people into that space would fill me with horror. There was a very small patio area outside which just about contained a small table and 2 chairs. The main gripe about the layout of the building was the fact that the units are staggered at a bit of an angle and that there was a view from the patio into the adjoining unit. We therefore kept the window that looked onto the adjoining patio closed for the whole fortnight.

The staff were mostly friendly with Alvira being the heart and soul of the resort. She is an amazing person but without her the place would not have felt as welcoming. She suffered a personal tragedy while we were there which probably accounted for some miserable faces amongst the staff. The fact Alvira carried on as well as she did is a tribute to her. Nonetheless, if we had one major complaint about the place it was the fact that the safe key we were given for our room didn't work and despite several ones being tried out we never were able to use the safe. We were aware there was an issue with something disappearing from another room and being reassured there would not be a problem was therefore not acceptable.

The location is right next to the end of the airport runway, but it was fun watching mostly turbo props coming in to land. It was a bit of a pain, however, that the plane noise started at 6am every day and that we were woken up every morning when the first take off or landing happened. One of the main advantages on the location is the fact that there is a very good selection of restaurants within 15 minutes walking distance. The largest supermarket on the island, Pennysavers, is also a short drive. It might not be the scenic end of the island but we came to appreciate the fact we had plenty of choice compared to the more remote areas of the island.

There is a small mini mart on site that actually provided quite a good selection of staple foods and other items. Alvira's free rum punch nights are great and the bar is pretty good. The pina colada is fabulous. The restaurant is sadly too limited in the menu but what was dished up was tasty and a fair price. For a bigger menu one can walk around the wall and up the steps into the steak and lobster restaurant next door, as long as you don't mind waiting an age for a moderate standard of cooking.

The resort runs a free shuttle to Pigeon Point (lovely) and Mount Irvine (also very pleasant).

Sadly, Tobago itself is not somewhere we would go back to. We found that, compared to some other Caribbean islands we have visited, the people overall did not feel welcoming in the way we might have expected, given how important tourism is to peoples' incomes (at least from my perception). The number of sullen looks we got were very off-putting and disappointing even though we always tried to be friendly.

The beaches are beautiful and almost empty yet there seemed no great urgency to get our business. One hotel (the Turtle Beach resort) actually refused to let us buy a drink at their bar when we were looking for some refreshment. Unbelievable!! What hotel turns away business? This was very annoying as they were the only decent option in the area.

We had a nice boat trip to Nylon Pool and Buccoo Reef, but "Sunday School" at Buccoo was a waste of time. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the resort and enjoyed relaxing using their nice little beach, pool and hot tubs. However, as a holistic experience, Tobago failed to leave us feeling entirely satisfied with our holiday.

Room Tip: If you can afford a one bed roomed unit or larger then I would go for that as they are much larger t...

We stayed at Sandy Bay Beach Club in Tobago March 21-April 5, 2013. We absolutely loved Tobago. The resort was very friendly and felt like home. The rooms are clean and very adequate. They are not 5-star luxury be way better than average.
The staff at the resort are awesome. They were quick to help with any issues, big or small. From the maintenance guy Q to the front desk gals, cleaning team, bar tenders and let’s not forget wonderful Alvira!! Also all the guests that are regulars there really made us feel part of the family. We got married at the resort during our stay. Alvira helped to make the day so special and absolutely perfect in every way. Not to mention the beautiful sunset location and pictures.
We had room 213. The upstairs bedroom had a ½ bath (sink and toilet) which was a great addition. We had two couples in the unit and had plenty of room for us all. The kitchen was pretty well equipped. The resort is not large so getting to and from our vehicle was not a chore.
Location was the only negative. It was as far away as possible from the opposite end of the island (Charlotteville). We enjoy discovering everything the island has to offer. The drive to Charlotteville took about 2-1/2 hours. We were there during Easter and the amount of people in Tobago during that week was unbelievable! It was fun with so much activity, but traffic was a very crazy. Air traffic was not an issue at the resort; we were initially concerned about that upon seeing the location of the resort and airport. It was even FUN to see the airplanes come in.
I would highly recommend the resort and we plan to re-visit in a couple years. We traded Hawaii timeshare to go to Tobago … it was a great trade!!!
