we where looking for directions to castillo penafiel and couldn t understand the signs with WINE MUSEUM; after reaching the hill top we found out that the ship shaped castle had on the south side a very beautiful and well clearifying wine museum.
The tour through the castle is also a recommandation .

Make sure to know when they are open ; siësta closing times ............

It's a long trek uo the mountain to get to the castle, but it is just about worth it. The wine museum is small and all in Spanish but has some really good points. It goes through the wine making process from start to finish.
The best part for me was the different aroma jars that help you get an idea of the different buoquets in wine.
Have a look at the opening times before you go. as it closes in the middle of the day for siesta.

Located inside the castle this museum tells of the history of wine not just in Spain but also its origins. However, all the information is in Spanish which is difficult to fully enjoy the attraction.

The views from the castle are dreamlike! The wine museum in the castle gives basic facts about winemaking and it's presented in a lovely way.
