“Good Quality, Peaceful Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights on a family tour of Scotland and wished that we could have stayed longer!
The room was good quality, with nice furnishings and comfortable beds.
The restaurant, as you might expect was expensive with limited menu but we ate in the bar, where the choice of food was good, very tasty and the service was excellent.
The leisure centre was fairly basis, had a good sized pool but steam room wasn't very steamy.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the front entrance to the hotel and we were disturbed by late night revellers fr...

Upon approach the grounds and hotel are picturesque, unfortunately we could not take advantage of any view from our room (44) what so ever, our view was of a grass embankment 3 feet from the window and the rear of the leisure area, so so disappointing as we were staying for a couple of nights. We were unable to log onto wifi at all during the stay (advertised as free wifi in ALL rooms) and reception were unable to assist, we could not be moved due to hotel being full (albeit only a handful of cars in the car park, night and day!!!). The room was clean and basic and in keeping with the age of the hotel, dark furniture, carpets but the lighting in the room was very poor and no extractor fan within the bathroom which needs updating and a complete steam clean, fixed shower head of no use to anyone over 5 foot tall. The room was very hot and uncomfortable overnight even with windows open. Family of four but only 2 cups supplied and four uht milks provided - these are BASIC fundamentals that should not need to be addressed by paying customers!!! A disappointing stay. On a positive the leisure facilities were very nice with a large swimming pool and the leisure staff very pleasant.

Room Tip: Ask management for a room with a view. No lifts within the hotel and long corridors with an abundan...

A very disappointing stay. We booked a 2 night break to end our holiday as a break the journey stop whilst returning from Islay. We stayed in a king superior room on a DBB rate. To cut a long story short, we checked out and travelled home after the first night. Their is nothing superior about the room. It was in need of a fair amount of maintenance and was very dusty and grimy.

To be fair the general manager was excellent and understood our point. Although she offered to move us and compensate us, the shine had gone and we had decided to leave.

I am surprised that the hotel manages to retain its 4 star status, as it drastically needs an overhaul. On the plus side the golf course and the pro were both excellent.

Room Tip: Choose. Different hotel.

Misses the mark. Given the price it needs to be so much more...bathrooms dated and tired, my colleague couldn't even stand up in shower due to ceiling height and that was in a superior room. To be fair this was eventually acknowledged and discount given but took an awful lot of discussion to get this. Real shame.

The hotel has a nice location - high on the hills in Langbank overlooking the river Clyde with breathtaking views of Dumbarton on the other side of the river. There is also a beautiful golf course.
Breakfast was average - there is a lot to choose from including English cooked breakfast and continental but the quality of the bacon and sausage meats could have been better.
I particularly enjoyed the spa and the treatments as well as the gym, which is small but has modern equipment. The gym was unattended every time I used it.
The pool is of a good size but perhaps needs some better decor.
The hotel room is quaint. It is spacious with mahogany furniture, which I particularly liked. The View from the room was beautiful.
The downfall was that in our room we had very bad wifi. We could not access our email and this was very frustrating as our emails kept on piling up. What was particularly annoying was the response of the receptionist who worked evenings/nightime who told me that I was the only one complaining (!) and 'what do you want me to do about it?'. That's the attitude we got. The manager later came to inform us that the 'engineers' were trying to fix the problem. I think that all they needed was either a faster service provider or a wifi repeater which reached our room (room 73)
On a positive note, we particularly appreciated the nice lad who used to serve us during breakfast and who was kind enough to carry our heavy luggage down two flights of steps (there's no lift, by the way). He was always ready to help.
On the whole it was a nice stay - nothing luxurious but quite comfortable.

Room Tip: You must have a car to travel to Langbank. Ask for a room with a view as we noticed that some rooms...

Reception was a strange affair with no proper counter. Our rooms turned out to be on the other side of the complex so we reloaded the car to drive around as recommended by the helpful receptionist. Entry was then by a side door which confusingly also appeared to be the reception for the swimming pool/spa. As our prime interest was as a base to explore Glasgow and surrounding area we did not sample those facilities. The room itself was large and clean and I found no problem with the bathroom.
The pillows though were flat and next to useless. I had great difficulty in getting to sleep. Having eventually done so at about 04.00, I was awakened at about 06.00 by repetitive creaking noises coming from the floor above. Apparently, an early riser, presumably a golfer, was preparing to go out. I heard every movement as he or she crossed the floor repeatedly as we all might do. If there was any sound insulation between the floors it was totally ineffective. This happened both night that we stayed. My friend had a similar experience in a room down the corridor. Not much better was the conversation that I could hear through the locked communicating doors to the adjoining room. Clearly the management of this hotel have never stayed there. I made the point about the noise to the receptionist as I left. She told me that if I returned I should ask for one of the rooms that does not suffer from noise. It was only some time later when I recalled her comment that I thought "So, they do know that some rooms suffer from noise intrusion, yet they haven't done anything to solve the problem and are happily booking guests into those rooms!"
We did not stay for breakfast at the outrageous cost of £12.50 per head but sampled the restaurant for an evening meal. Service was prompt and the food was ok, but overpriced for what it was.
This could be a nice place to stay. The immediate surroundings, including car parks, were unkempt, though the setting offers good views and the staff that we encountered were efficient. The place as a whole has a confusing layout, is somewhat worn down and is in desperate need of a sound proofing expert.

Room Tip: Make sure that you ask for a non-noisy room. It seems incredible that you should need to specify thi...

My partner and I stayed here the night before a cycling event in Greenock. At first glance the reception is nice but once we got to our room it was evident that this hotel was far from 4*. The room had no safe, the bathroom was dirty with broken blinds and the toilet seat kept coming off completely. Dead insects everywhere and the bed was not comfortable as the pillows were next to completely thin and unusable. There is a vague musty smell everywhere you go.

We used the pool and spa after arriving to relax, and found they were also rundown and not clean. The next day, after using the steam room, my partner developed conjunctivitis in his eye. I can only imagine the steam room must have been filthy with germs.

Generally walking round the hotel and looking out to the gardens etc, you can see that they are weedy and unkept. Outdoor furniture is dated and generally looks really rather uninviting, although the golf course is clearly well kept.

On going to dinner, which involved a hefty climb of some stairs (useless for those with mobility issues) we were stunned at the service and quality of food for the prices. The windows looking out to the golf course were absolutely filthy and hadn't been clean for likely months. The service was shocking; the waitresses just couldn't be bothered. The glasses were all dirty with marks and lipstick etc. I had steak which was ok but the bruschetta for starter was stale and cold.

Breakfast the next day was equally disappointing. A wait of almost 5 minutes to be greeted by anybody, the toast was cold and quality of food was poor.

I began my cycling event shattered due to not being about to sleep until around midnight despite retiring at 10.30am. This was due to the walls/floors being so thin I could hear nothing but relentless walking and talking in the room above, and this was with earplugs in! I could almost make out what they were saying. I'm sure the other guests were not being deliberately noisy, it's just that there is no sound proofing whatsoever.

I was glad to get out the place, and would not recommend it. Shame really as the location is nice but needs an overhaul and employ managment/staff that care.
