“Kinloch has stunning views, great food, great rooms but above all fantastic hosts!”
Reviewed October 29, 2013 via mobile

We have stayed at Kinloch on several occasions in different rooms ranging from budget to the top priced room. The beds are comfy & warm, facilities clean & a price for every budget.

The food is wonderful! Absolutely love the carrot cake & the best vegetarian nachos we have ever had! Kinloch caters for different diet requirements & the servings are generous.

Hosts Toni & John are welcoming & helpful.

Highly recommended & we will continue to return when visiting the area.

Great to see you again and twice this time due to our rather inclement weather. Hope everything goes well with the move to Tasmania - one step closer to New Zealand.

We stumbled upon this wonderful place while visiting Glenorchy..we saw the sign for spiced wine and seeing as it was a cold snowy day we thought it was just the ticket..when we stepped inside we were blown away by the warm welcome we got from the mine host..what a wonderful ambience with the wood burner and old artifacts ..like stepping back in town. The food was just lovely..Will certainly be back and recommend this place to anyone we know who is visiting the area...Thank you once again for the lovely hospitality

Thanks for finding your way to Kinloch. Still perfect weather for warm spiced wine. Let's hope summer rolls around soon.

We were welcomed from the start of our visit by warm and caring hosts who went out of their way to make sure every need was taken care of. Even though it was snowing lightly on arrival, there were plenty of guests enjoying a special function to which we were invited to join in. A fabulous jazz duo entertained us all evening and we retired to a warm and cosy room. Next morning we were able to smoke our freshly caught salmon at the lodge for lunch, which was superb.
We will definitely travel this way again and stay at Kinloch Lodge and highly recommend this as the place to stay in this area.

We go often to Kinloch and it's always superb. With wonderful personal service, the owners always work very hard to make sure guests have the best possible experience. This is a lovely family environment, welcoming children as well as singles/couples. And the hot tub is one of my favourite spots in the whole world! Just breathtaking views, admired from a delightful rustic tub of water at the perfect temperature. (If you forget to take insect repellant for the ever present sandflies, ask the owners as they usually have some available.) The food is home cooked to a high standard, prepared freshly to your specific requirements if requested, with a wonderful range of wines and beers.
PS BEWARE other reviews posted by (I suspect) someone from rival accommodation in the area. Kinloch don't have rooms right next to the kitchens, so this is likely to be a false review,

Room Tip: Heritage rooms have heaps of character and access to the shared lounge. Or outside, Weka is more iso...

Thanks for coming to Kinloch last weekend for our Jazz jam and the Jazz dinner raising money for Glenorchy School. We managed to raise over $2000 despite the horrid weather keeping quite a few people away. Really glad you enjoyed your stay. It is always a pleasure to see some of our favourite locals up from Queenstown.

My wife and I went to film at this location. Unfortunately it was pouring down with rain and just on evening. We were greeted by the most amazing host despite her having a full room of guests for dinner. She brought out complimentary wine and told us all about the history of the area. She then made sure after we finished filming under the canopy and the light had gone that we were shown the rooms. Our favorite was the Heritage room as it looked out on the water and had a very comfy lounge for use nearby. The carrot cake is amazing and we certainly can see why the recipe is world famous. This is a must visit location.

Room Tip: Heritage as amazing view

Had it not been for a chance meeting of a couple at Cardrona Hotel we would not have heard about this cosy hideaway. A great way to spend time out of the busy cities and become one with nature. It was unfortunate that the weather wasn't the greatest, but it was very relaxing going to sleep with the sound of the rain on the corrugated iron roof. The food and wine was very delectable and the dining room had a warm, comfortable feel to it.

Room Tip: Go for heritage rooms if you would like en-suite but shared bathrooms were fine and dandy.

Thanks so much for your review. I hope that you still managed to enjoy some of the spectacular walks in the area or perhaps some mist hanging photography. Sleeping with rain on an iron roof is something quite special though.

Location, location, location. The views of the snow capped mountains across the lake are truly stunning. The proximity to great walks is fantastic. The proprietors and their children are delightful - they even welcomed our kids into their home next door. The meals were great and the wines fantastic. The rooms are basic but the beds are quite comfortable - and i am very fussy! Remember to keep the doors closed against the flies and remember to pack the insect repellant. If you're after 5 star impersonal luxury then this is not for you. However if you enjoy quirky, warm and friendly accommodation then stay at Kinloch Lodge.

Thank you for the review. You stayed in our Qualmark 4.5 star YHA backpacker rooms. We love welcoming all our great guests who appreciate a great nights sleep in a beautiful setting with wines, meals and boutique beers in character with their surroundings. Always great to put a few more kids in the mix. A night at Kinloch is a real change from a 5 star Queenstown luxury hotel. Shame about the sandflies, though as the maori's say.... they are here to protect gods beautiful places and they don't discern between backpackers and 5 star when the doors are open.
