High country horses is an excellent place to do your horse riding experience! The scenery is fantastic and all of the staff are great. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or experience rider, they cater for all and in such a wonderful area! The river crossings and lord of the rings scenery just add to the trip and the other animals inc pigs and dear that you get to pet whilst you are there really make it special!

“Spectacular Scenery, Awesome Horses, Fantastic Guides!”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

What a wonderful trip not to mention the backdrop was simply spectacular! The lupeens are were just beautiful everywhere. Thanks to the amazing team for hooking me up with Sparky (my horse), I wanted to take him home, as well as Mister Jones and Havoc (their 2 residential dogs)! I really had a great time. The guide and entire crew were very professional and they take pride of what they do. Keep it up! ;)

“Nice family activity”
Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

We just had an spectacular half day horse riding. We crossed rivers and enjoyed the scenery. The team was very friendly, reassuring my 7 year old for her first ever solo riding. They ratio of one guide to 5 clients is much higher than standard requirement. We also done a farm excursion and patted the other animals which was really fun. All these in the amazing area between Glenorchy and Kinloch. Highly recommended!

“2.5 hour horse ride”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

Liked: Good match of ability to horses. Very nice scenery. Lupins were spectacular, as were views of the mountains alongside the Rees river. Very good guide. Horses in excellent condition, obviously know their jobs.

Disliked: Not enough opportunities to go faster than a walk. Would have liked at least a slight climb rather than along the river only.

Good ride for beginners, but a bit long for complete beginners.

Thank you very much for your feed-back. We pride ourselves in our horses as they reflect the high standards of our horse trekking. Our horses are all put through months of training before they are graduated onto the trekking.
The high standard of horse care and training reflexes on our guides as well. Our standards are a lot higher than what is required and our staff know our area well. This means that our clients are given a fantastic experience along with New Zealand knowledge and true Kiwiana :)
On our treks our guides must evaluate their clients and the 1st and most important thing is to keep everyone safe. We have found by pushing clients to do more faster riding increases the risk of a fall 85%. We also offer a shorter ride (REES RIVER RIDE) which is one hour in length for the client that wishes to experience riding but not push the boundaries to far. I hope now you understand the reasons for safety.
Thank you again for your feedback plus we are so pleased you really enjoyed your time with us.
