I went in January when the sakura festival began and it was very pretty. The grounds are well kept and the old castle walls are in good shape. You can imagine what it used to look like if you try. The walk was fairly easy, but definitely not suited for strollers since the ground is rough and there are several steps. The staff were very helpful, but English is not spoken there except by a very few people. This is not a one stop trip; I recommend you add at least one other attraction to any visit to the peninsula. Cost was 400 yen for adults.

Nice view. Well-kept place. But nothing really to see. Whatever buildings had disappeared and only the rough walls remain.

These ruins are close to the aquarium, so on our way back we stopped by.
The ruins teach us how strong and rich this castle used to be.
Better learn about its history and the relations with Shuri castle, so we can appreciate the Ryukyu culture.

A relic of the capital of old Okinawa tribes. Interesting to see the city walls in star shape, something like those in small towns in northern Italy, although a much smaller scale. I went there mainly to see the sakura trees. There are plenty of them along both sides of road leading to the top layer of the city walls. Should be very pleasant view when the sakura peak season, probably at the last wk of January. Good place to visit if you finished with nearby aquarium early enough.

These are impressive ruins, especially the walls. The view of the sea is gorgeous. You can walk all around and through the ruins.
