Owner description: --is at Lat.43 10'N.Lon.14045'E, or about the same Latitude as the middle of New York State, Toronto Canada, Vladivostok Russia. --rests about 50km west of Sapporo City in southern Hokkaido, which is the northernmost of Japan's four principal islands, and was one of the last Japanese frontiers to be developed. --has three sides surrounded by mountains, and one side on the coast (Sea of Japan). --is blessed with the things that really matter to great whisky. However, Scotch whisky captured the young man's imagination, as well as the interest of few other enterprising Japanese of that day. He decided to dedicate his life to whisky.

“Interesting, and well presented.”

"Whisky" and "Japan" are not two words that one would normally expect in the same sentence, but this distillery has produced award-winning whisky, and it is a delightful visit - and explains how it came about! There is, indeed, a strong link back to Scotland! The distilling process is well demonstrated, there is an interesting museum, a welcoming tasting-room, and a good gift shop. It is all laid out in well maintained grounds - well worth a visit. Near-by is a small space museum, also well worth a visit.

“Now that's some good whisky!”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

I had never expected when visiting Hokkaido that we would find a Whisky Distillery. 3 free samples in the tasting room, and they ask drivers to wear a special sticker so they don't get accidentally served. The view from the Tasting room is great. As is the museum. A good rundown of the Whisky making process and an explanation as to how this Distillery ended up here. (That was the question i needed answers to!!!)
Surprisingly kid friendly and there is lots of room to run amuck.

“For whisky lover”
Reviewed February 27, 2012

Free admission. You will be able see the entire chain of whisky making process... on a video and some display samples but that was good also. Some ancient whisky bottles were displayed in their museum too. I myself am not too much into whisky but did enjoy the place a lot. The have the tasting room with lots of their in house whisky available for you to sample at a reasonable price. They have a nice restaurant so I suggest you to spend the morning and lunch there. A very good souvenir shops with all products related to whisky as well.
