“Great location but nothing else”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

The hotel is dated. Breakfast buffet selection is ok but I have seen better. We booked a triple room and its basically a twim room and they cramp another bed in there, it left very little space for opening suitcases.

My biggest problem with this hotel is housekepping. During our 5-nts stay, 4 items gone missing from our room: shaving gel, toothpaste, electric toothbrush head, our own slippers!!!! Not sure it's intentional or not, but very annoying to found something missing everyday. These are all personal items so it's not like the hotel can replace them with the same thing after complain. My advise, hide everything before you leave in the morning.

The only positive about this hotel is location!

Dear Mrs. Buffy

Thank you for choosing Hotel Niseko Alpen for your ski holiday and taking the time to share your experience through Tripadvisor.

We truly apologise about inconvenience of house keeping . Things like this should never happen as hotel service. We will take your feedback on board , and we cirtainly inprove this as not happen again.

For triple room, sorry to let you down as not large as you expected , for 3 to 4 people we have japanese western room which is 2 single bed with futon on Tatami (Japanese style), if you put away your futon( Japanese style bedding ) , there will be a space to open suitcase.

Again, I am sorry for inconvenience , and thank you very much for taking the time to review us.
I hope in the future you chose to stay with us again.

Yours sincerely,
Hirofumi Takahashi

First time to Niseko and picked this hotel based on accessibility to ski school and price, given that we went as a family with 2 young children. Our experience was better than expected, largely because the hotel is really located just next to the ski school that my family signed up for lessons. Good selection of restaurants in and outside the hotel was available and within easy reach, although after dinner at restaurants outside, we had to brave the cold snow and walk uphill (tough when the kids became lazy). The Welcome Center is just across the road which makes taking the bus to Kutchan town easy. The hotel onsen and swimming pool provided guests with options to kill time when we were not skiing, and they are complimentary to hotel guests. Could have been better if these facilities are open earlier in the morning (instead of only available from 1 pm).

The hotel looks out-dated as compared to the newer properties in Niseko. But really the location cannot be beat.

I've stayed here several every two years four times now with family and friends. The rooms are a little dated but the location is second to none! Nothing better than skiing right up to the door of your hotel. The dinner buffets are great for the money and I didn't realy have to deal with the staff at all except for when my international converter broke once and they promply helped me get a new one. Definitely not "fancy" but worth every penny.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the rooms facing the forest and not overlooking the town for an enchanting view.

The Ace ski lift is just outside the hotel side exit via the ski lockers. You can also ski down a gentle slope to reach the Ace Family lift. From the Ace I or II lift you can ski towards the King's lift and ski back to the hotel again coming down near the Ace family path. The Grand Hirafu visitor center is across the road. Check out the umbrella kiosk with its hot mulberry wine *yum*.
The onsen in the hotel is great after a day of ski. Self service laundry machine and dryer is pretty cheap. 100 yen per 30mins? Washing powder is sold over the counter next to the washing machines at the basement which is 1 floor below the onsen. There's an indoor swimming pool too and a hot bed massage/reflexology center at the same basement level too.
If you opt out of getting housekeeping for one day, you can get a 500yen voucher in return with a max of maybe 5 or 7 vouchers if I remember correctly. You can only use the vouchers in the hotel premise. The convenient store on the groundfloor of the hotel is quite good. With fresh ice-cream made in Hokkaido - I think from the milk factory, en-route to Niseko village/Annupuri. There was a Myojo spicy ramen in the store which taste really really excellent. If it's too cold to venture out (excuse) you can enjoy this in your room. Amazingly authentic! Lots of nice ski wear to purchase too. So no shortage of items to spend your vouchers on.

Room Tip: Nice view onto Ace family trail.

We stayed here for 5 nights, and am very happy we chose this hotel.
We had a triple room, and they gave us a corner room which had a little extra space with a tiny sofa. It was still okay for us as we didn't stay in the room much. However, it would be good to have a little more cupboard space to put our stuff. The bathroom was tiny too, but why use it when you have the free hotel onsen? we were there every day taking a shower and a dip in the hot pool! Communication with the hotel was easy in English, and all my questions were patiently answered.

It was true ski in/out location - u can store your ski equipment at your given locker at basement of the hotel, and with just 20+ steps you are out of the door and onto snow, where u can take the the chairlifts up the slope, or ski down the gentle family slope where the NBS ski school is located. Staying at the hotel, we can just put on our ski wear, wear our room slippers down to the locker, gear up there and be skiing in a jiffy. A great bonus esp where u have to 2 young kids.
We got a great spring package rate (room with daily breakfast and lift pass - kids free!).
Would stay here again. I also think Alpen Ridge apartment down the family slope (where NBS is located) would be great to stay too, but as the rates is more than double of what I have to pay compared to Alpen hotel, I would take the hotel anytime (with the onsen)!

Did not stay here but visited the onsen a couple of times during my season in Hirafu.

It's not the cheapest nor the best onsen in Hirafu but you won't go wrong here. All the facilities you need with a outdoor and indoor pool, sauna, and cold pool.

Another thing is it's the closest onsen to the lifts so maybe after a hard day on the slopes, the closest onsen might be the best.

Can get pretty crowded most nights but not to the point where it's uncomfortable.

Bring your own towels if you're not staying there but using the onsen. That way you save about 300 yen.

The hotel is built for people who love to ski with equipment rental and lockers next to building. What is truly outstanding is the outdoor onsen where snow flakes fall lightly on the face. And to stretch the muscles, a great Olympic sized swimming pool. Buffet breakfast- must try the freshly made yoghurt. It is unequalled!
