“Great place, great people, great location”
Reviewed March 23, 2014

Niseko and Kevin were super warm, friendly, professional and accommodating hosts. Especially considering I kind of just rocked up out of the cold in a heavily booked season :-)

Always plenty of play mates about to watch movies, good and eat, dine out and party, and of course go skiing and boarding with.

The kitchen, living and bedding areas were always super organised and clean. I liked that everyone was friendly and easy going there. Also, whilst things were in order, this places was not burdened with too many rules. No early kick outs when it was time to change rooms and all the usual pleasantries were extended at all times.

Nisse is a champ, always friendly and chatty, and of course too helpful. Made a great stay in Niseko an even better one.

Thanks again and see you next time,

Mark Conway

Room Tip: The 8 Bedder has curtains which is if you need to catch up on sleep in the day :)

Stayed here a couple of nights. Was satisfied with the level of service.
The staff ensured transfers from Chitose Airport, and picked me up at the Hirafu Welcome centre.
The toilets and bathrooms were slightly dirtier than I would have hoped, but nothing that I couldn't live with.
The breakfast was OK, although the sugar provided was rock hard.
Wi-fi worked well enough.
Location is OK. There are shuttle buses taking you to the main lift and gondola stations form a bus stop 20m outside the door.

Hirafubackpackers is a great lodge. Highly recommended on price, proximity and vibe - we all had a great time in and out of the backcountry. This was our second year in a row - great renovation, new linen, and a great bunch of managers.

Room Tip: We were a larger group so cheaper per person

If your on a budget then this is the best in town.
We had the best time in Niseko, deep powder snow every day that's what we are here for…

Hirafu Backpackers was the cheapest and located right in it with snow everywhere, walk to ski lifts or free shuttle is easy. Meet heaps of skiers and boarders from all over the world visiting and Free wireless Internet that helps, rooms are plan, beds comfortable, warm and dry, basic breakfast but that's all you need before you head off to ski and that's free.

Thew crew was a big help with what to do and see in town.
It was a cruisy place to hang out, had a Big screen TV and a media room with heaps of movies We had a blast drank and eat good food all on a budget, heaps of bars and restaurants, loved the Onsen's after a big day out. super keen for the next trip back to Niseko town.

Sadly for as cheap (and it's not that cheap compared to other & better manager hostels) it's still not worth it.

If you enjoy:
* Toilets & showers that look, smell like & are cleaned as infrequently as a typical small town public toilet out the back of a service station then this is for you.
* Hearing everything that goes on in the hostel no matter what room your in then this is for you.
* Confusing booking system that is run purely by email with no instructions or staff to greet you when you arrive. This is definitely for you.
* Love sleeping in a bed without sheets that would separate you and a blanket that countless other people have held so dear whilst they sweat, menstruate & copulate underneath or on top of, then this, is very much for you!
* A common area that smells like a drying room, then look no further, this hostel IS FOR YOU!
* Having no heating in your room during some of the coldest of winter nights, this, again, must be for you.
* Meeting Australians whilst travelling to a foreign country, spending evenings with loud Australians, being in Australia without being in Australia then this is for you.

After all that, be disappointed with the fact that there is but (1) shower for men and (1) shower for women. (2) toilets in total for men and (2) fridges in a hostel that sleeps 24 people. This is sadly almost the norm amongst hostels in this area but it all depends on who is running the show. So far only Japanese owners of Japanese hostels have appeared to actually put an effort in to how clean, organized and happy their hostels are.
* Medium laundry load is 500 yen a pop!
* Free shopping bus is in actual fact free for everyone, everywhere during winter regardless if you stay here or not (Called Night-Go bus)
* Drying room is not 24 hours.

Hope this helps with your travel plans.
