“Ski-ing Pamporovo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2012

We took our first family ski holiday in Pamporovo in late December last year and it was fantastic!
The help we got from Pippa at Snow-White Skiing prior to departure was invaluable and we enjoyed the convenience of a package holiday without paying a package holiday price. We flew into Plovdiv rather than Sofia and the 90 minute transfer was fairly comfortable even with a 5 year old and an 8 year old. We were very lucky with the amazing snow conditions (which were unusual for a December trip) and found the set up of equipment hire and organisation of lift passes and ski tuition to be very smooth. The skiing in Pamporovo is limited but absolutely ideal for families and beginners - so much so that my 8 year old claimed our 4 day trip was his best holiday ever and we will definately be returning to the Snezhanka in 2012/13
The apartment was compact but relatively modern, clean, neat and tidy not brilliant for self catering as the kitchen area was very limited however for a VERY small fee you can use the hotel facilities and restaurant.
Overall a great trip and one we look forward to repeating in the near future.

I have been to Pamporovo many times as it is my favourite ski resort. This year we stayed with Snow White Ski Apartments situated at the Snezhanka Apart Hotel.
We had a fantastic holiday and the apartments were above our expectations. They were very warm, modern and comfortable and most of all lots of Hot water after a days ski-ing is a blessing.
We made lots of friends during our stay through the ski-school organised by the Snow White Ski-ing company and also from sitting around on the big comfy couches in the lobby bar around the log fire.
To be picked up by the private transfer was so much nicer than getting on the bus from Sofia as we stopped off half way and our driver took us to a really good value supermarket to buy provisions, he even pushed the trolly for us.
We opted for the half board option and ate in the hotel restaurant which was very good.
Pamporovo is a wonderful place to ski especially for beginners, everyone is down to earth and very friendly. If you've never skied before this is definately the place to learn.
We had fantastic weather, great snow and glorious sunshine. And to be on the doorstep for the ski bus is a real bonus.
Looking forward to next year :))

Pamporovo 20th - 27 Dec 2011 Snezhanka 2 bed apartments booked through Snow White skiing, very spacious, well equipped (separate toaster would be handy). All hotel facilities available swimming pool, transport to slopes (2 lev pp, p day), meals, wifi, bar etc. Family group including teenagers, intermediate level. Massive snowfall on arrival, making excellent skiing conditions and relatively empty slopes until 26th. No queues at lifts. Great fun with Spaceman (instructor) booked through snow white. Equipment, passes and instruction price was very reasonable (cheaper to book before arrival). Great traditional Bulgarian Christmas dinner! Cheap transfers to/from Plovdiv, waiting on arrival, stopping at a supermarket (recommended) taking about 1.5 hours in total. Highly recommended for beginners and intermediates but advanced skiers might get bored quickly as only a few blacks!

Room Tip: Rooms at rear overlook trees which (lovely), slightly noisier with road to the front. 2 bed apartme...

Me and my partner stayed here beginning of march 2012 for a week. The hotel is lovely, had a nice bar area with an open fire. Food in the restaurant wasnt the best, was served luke warm by time you picked your food and sat down it was cold. We had read about this before though so we expected this.

The snezhanka was located at the top end of the resort but was really close to everything as only a small resort. with in walking distance to the shops and restaurants. Very close to the most popular restaurant the Gloria Mar . We eat there one night and food was nice would recommend to eat here. Location of hotel is perfect cannot fault this.

The hotel room we had was big, even though we had read about the small rooms here, we must of been lucky as our friends had a small room.

The irish bar Daks is attached to this hotel which has a great atmosphere and music.

We travelled through thomas cook neilson, our rep, Martin was excellent, best rep we've ever had on any holiday really knew the resort and was really smiley and friendly.

Each day we would be picked up outside the hotel and taken to the slopes, which were provided every morning. These buses would then pick you up to bring you back to the hotel.

Slopes and instructors are really good in this resort me and my boyfriend are at different levels and both enjoyed the resort. Food on the slopes was really nice better quality than at the hotel.

Over all a really enjoyable holiday, we recommend highly and would go again.

Arrived with Neilson holidays on February 18th 2012 around midnight after a four hour transfer from Sofia airport. (stopping at McDonalds half way). Our rep Martin was fab and handed out everything for the next morning on the coach to the hotel..... thus we knew what was happening the next morning.

No problems at all with checking in... quick and easy and a porter helped us take out luggage up to our apartment on the 6th floor in block B...... only a small lift but we got there. Lovely size apartment with a large double bedroom, sofa bed made up into a double in the sitting area and a nice touch of sandwiches and fruit waiting for us... (shame we had eaten at McDonalds on the way!!!). No kettle in the aparment - but we had read the reviews before and taken out own!!! Fridge and dishwasher!!!! available. Tv in the room with a couple of english channels... actually saw some English football.....

We hired a safety deposit box for the week which cost 25 levs, although we had no problems at all with security at the hotel, we thought this was the best option and money well spent!!!!

We stayed half board and had no problems at all with the food... always lots of choices with loads of gorgeous salads, bread, fruit etc... always chips, rice etc and some really nice main dishes, and if you did need to heat it up there were a few microwaves dotted around, but we didn't need to. We had a free drink with our evening meal which was a nice touch - soft drink, beer or wine..... The manageress in the restaurant was lovely and even arranged a birthday cake for our son who was 11 while we were there, she arranged reserved seating and wine etc (for us not our son!!!!). Breakfast was also nice with lovely scrambled egg, toast, bacon, sausage (continental style) but really nice. Lots of tea, coffee and juice available.

My husband and son used the pool a couple of times which they said was fine and only cold when you first got it. A few people we met used the sauna's and said these were lovely.

The bar area is very nice and cosy with a lovely fire and televisions scattered around the area. We had pizzas and chips in the bar area one night (as we couldn't be bothered to go up to the restaurant!!) These were gorgeous and really cheap :-), beer and drinks (local spirits) were cheap, probably the cheapest in the resort.

The ski buses ran regularly from our hotel and we always got one!!! In fact i think each Hotel have their own buses now, this makes it easier to get buses back and forward from the ski area. The buses don't run all day, only from 9 - 10.30 then returning from 3 ish till 4.45... if you miss them or want to go back earlier or later there are plenty of taxis about. Arrange a price before you get one though.

We had a ball on this holiday and absolutely made the right choice in picking this hotel, we would definately like to return.

Room Tip: Ask for Block B, as Block A is above Daks Irish Pub and aparantely could be noisy!! We didn't h...

This was my second time in Pamporovo Skiing resort, and the Snezhanka is still the all round best. The Skiing was outstanding, as snowfall was remarkably heavy for March, and there was no fear of there being a lack of the white stuff, far from it!

The Hotel is still doing what it always done best, obliging, helpful staff, plenty of food, nice beds, and ease of access to skiing. Plus the great Dak's Irish Bar in the Hotel has become legendary in it's own right for St. Patrick's week celebrations!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to apartments - they are quite impressive. They can be quite a walk from the brea...

We were a party of four staying at the excellent Snezhanka Hotel for the umpteenth time ! [4th - 11th March 2012]
What a great place to stay :-)
Ok the rooms are not massive but ours was always warm, cosy and tidied every day, despite our best efforts to fill it full of wet snowboard gear. Whichever lady looked after our room, thank you for providing us with more clean towels than a Turkish Hammam. We seemed to get new towels every day despite not leaving the previous days towels on the floor as the hotel requested.[We like to do our bit for the environment].
Also our own cleaning lady also provided us with a small tablecloth for us to use with the kettle we had taken, so that we did not stain the dressing table. A nice touch.
Security is often criticised, particularly pilfering of odds and ends from rooms, but during all of our stays at the Snezhanka, we have never had anything go missing, so this is a testament to the honesty and integrity of the staff. We left watches and i-pods in the room and they were never touched.
That said, I would always recommend using their safety-deposit boxes for your passports, cash and other valuable items that you don't need access to every day and at only about £1 per day for the week, very good value for money.
The food has often been criticised by other reviewers and I can never understand this.
In all of our visits to the Snezhanka the food has been excellent and certainly of a better standard than the other Bulgarian hotels we have stayed at. Choice cannot be faulted with a mahoosive spread for breakfast including cereals, yoghurt, fruit, toast, pancakes (delicious with honey and chocolate from the doughnuts and warmed in the microwave - mmmm !), eggs, beans, french toast, cold meats, cheese - really I could go on and on.
Likewise dinner in the evening typically offered 4 choices of main meal (usually a mix of chicken, pork and fish) , 2 soups and a whole table full of different salad / cold options.
Speaking to some of our fellow guests at the hotel we understand that choices for vegetarians might be limited, but we would have thought that there would be something edible.
The staff are also often criticised for being surly, miserable and unfriendly. We would not agree with this. Try using just a few words of Bulgarian with them and they acknowledge you with a smile and a shake of the head [Bulgarians shake their heads when they mean yes and nod their heads when they mean no]. Also you will see the same staff working late in the restaurant in the evening that you saw first thing in the morning at breakfast, so let's give them a break. 3 or 4 levs tip [at current exchange rates less than 2 UK pounds] with your evening drinks bill is appreciated. Price wise we think the hotel is very reasonable. Typically with dinner we would get a good bottle of Bulgarian Cabernet or Merlot for 14 levs - we got an exchange rate from a kiosk on the street of 2.34 levs = £1 meaning the bottle cost us less than 6 quid - in a good hotel / restaurant! Can you get this anywhere similar in the UK?
Local draught beer was approximately £1.70 per pint and local spirits were less than £1 for a single whether you got them in the restaurant or the bar.
Services and facilities wise, we didn't use the pool, jacuzzi or sauna this time around so we cannot comment on them. The hotel lays on free shuttle buses to get you to Ski Centre 2 and the main Malina Lift and we found these excellent. The drivers were always pleasant and helpful and the buses would run 5 times in the morning from 9am and 5 times in the afternoon from 3 pm, roughly every 20 minutes or so depending on capacity. They would often wait a few minutes for one bus to fill up completely before setting off rather than sending two buses half full.
Officially I think the Snezhanka is rated by Bulgarian tourist services as 3* which I have never understood and I think that it's about time it was re-visited and upgraded.
All in all, if you are looking for a comfortable, good value and pleasant place to stay for your winter holiday, then you can't go far wrong with the Hotel Snezhanka.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the 3rd or 4th floor to avoid corridor noise from floor #1 especially if there...
