Ten years or so ago the Bootjes huis used to rent small boats for a tour on the lake. After the place burnt down, it was replaced by a modern restaurant with large windows and a terrace looking out over the lake. The atmosphere is bright, the decoration modern, and the seats comfortable. The dishes not only look good, but taste good as well, and the servings of spare ribs delightfully generous. The Argentinian house wine is nice and there is a fair choice of beers. No wonder, then, that on sunny Sundays, the place is crowded and one may have to wait for a table. But reservations are accepted. The staff is friendly and multilingual (with plenty of banter going on between the boys and girls) but neither efficient nor distinguished; and since passers-by imagine the restaurant's sanitary infrastructure is a public facility, the loo is a little less than clean towards the end of the day. But then again, this is a brasserie and not a luxury restaurant, and the food and view make up for any misgivings one might have.
