Right let's start by being honest here! If you are of a disposition that requires 'chic' then the Farr Bay Inn is not for you (and I doubt if owners Karan and Steve would want to dispute that) but if you are like me and appreciate a characterful building, a welcome, honest conversation, good food, good bar chat and a genuine willingness to help then the Farr Bay Inn will be the place for you. Incidentally, unlike a previous reviewer we found our bedroom to be clean, bright and airy with a lovely view from the window and with acres of room. As noted by other reviewers Steve took our bikes into a storeroom and had them ready at the hotel door for us leaving the next morning. You should also know that five minutes walk behind the Inn takes you easily onto one of the most spectacular Scottish beaches I have been on (and I have been on a lot). At lower tides on the right hand side there is a most beautiful concealed rock archway which, with a bit of effort, you can walk across. If you are fortunate to catch a sunset here on the beach then you will be privileged indeed. The nearby cemetery and church museum are well worth the 200 yard walk. Frankly, I would suggest that the Farr Bay Inn is a bit of a nugget!

One of the most beautiful sandy beaches is just minutes away. Great to be able to have an evening meal cooked to order on the premises. Our bicycles were treated well. A good stop on the lovely north coast of Scotland.

Mesmerising is the only way to describe Farr Bay beach which we spent a lot of time on whilst spending a night at the Farr Bay Inn on the edge of Bettyhill. Neither of us had experienced a sunset quite like the one we witnessed here...for over an hour we had a perfect sphere of light with an ever evolving cloudscape that was like pure theatre...and then a pristine ranbow arching over the beach to our rear... the hotel itself is set back from the road and dates back to the early 19th century... it needs a wee bit of refurbishment but the welcome was genunely friendly and engaging and our room ticked all the boxes... theres a cosy wee bar too... good value in the height of summer and a smashing couple who own and run it....and then there's the wonderful beach...and the sunsets!!

We would have been happy to pay £50 to stay here, but it was way overpriced compared with other B and Bs we stayed in during a 2 week tour of Scotland. Large dog behind the bar, very tired bathroom. Old sheets on the bed. Room very tired. Breakfast room very basic, together with the food. On a positive note: friendly, helpful owners, lots of books, quiet location. Our only disappointing B and B during 2 weeks in Scotland.

We almost did not go in, but this was the only place to get lunch in Farr on Easter Sunday!
So glad we did, with a wonderful warm welcome. Homemade soup and generous sandwiches. Also great chat. Don't expect a fancy menu, the offerings are straightforward but done well and also done gladly by excellent host Karen.
We will go back on purpose on next visit to the North coast.

We had a trip up the North of Scotland the first time in nearly 35 years. We pulled into the Farr Bay Inn when it was almost dark. We were made most welcome. We had a good meal in the bar, breakfast was even better. Our room was warm and confortable and it had an ensuite shower room.. There was another few guests staying and there was 2 local farmers in the bar in the evening which made for excellent conversation during our meal. This is a tremendous part of Scotland. Its got beaches, moors and mountains and well worth a visit. We would stay at the Farr Bay Inn again.
