“Comfortable hotel, superb views, friendly staff.”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

We stayed one night at the end of May. We didn't have dinner at the Hotel because we had booked elsewhere (Cote du Nord).

Our room was large, nicely decorated, very clean and comfortable. We had a sea and beach view which took your breathaway! The hotel stands on the main coast road, but the new double glazing and the low traffic count meant that it was very peaceful.

Breakfast , in a dining room with a similar view, was freshly cooked to order and very comprehensive.

The new owner has ambitious plans and based upon our experience he deserves to succeed. We would certainly stay again and recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 2 has the view!

As of June 2013, the hotel is still under serious refurbishment. All credit to the new owner who is putting the hours in with the building works and looking after guests at the same time. However this does not detract from the fact that this hotel is work in progress and visitors should know what to expect when they get there. The car park is a bit rough and there is scaffold festooning some of the outer walls. Inside, the bar is quite basic but that did not make our stay uncomfortable. The menu during our visit was pretty much "bar food" although it was cooked freshly and well presented. The restaurant was used for breakfast only and we did not see any sign of major refurbishment apart from new windows, nonetheless, it was very clean.
Our room was clean and warm with tea and coffee making facilities to hand.
The real pleasure of the Hotel is its' location. It is an ideal stopping off point for touring along the top coast of Scotland. We generally tour on motorcycles and the Bettyhill Hotel is absolutely perfect for such trips with incredible scenery and great roads. It also has good fishing in the estuary 500 meters from the hotel and it is easy reach of a few highland golf courses. The hotel will benefit in future as an outdoor sports venue for cyclists, walkers and even offshore canoeing.
The staff are extremely polite and helpful and our hope is that things continue to develop and this hotel enjoys a rebirth as a main location for tourists. There is little doubt that we will return in the future.

We arrived at the hotel whilst on a motorbike tour of Scotland. We were cold and wet and were hoping for good quality accomodation, having read the reviews. We were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and we were given room 2 which was warm, dry, spotlless and had a fantastic view. The bed was huge with a crisp cotton sheet and duvet. There was a large free standing 3 rail towel stand in the en suite which was perfect for drying some of our biking kit.Carl, Chris and Jack made us very welcome in the bar and we enjoyed an excellent meal and great hospitality. Breakfast was excellent and served by Carl. The hotel is ideally situated for bikers wishing to tour this area. I wish that I had not pre paid our next nights accomodation elsewhere, as I would have remained here for another few nights and enjoyed more hospitality. We could have then explored inland. We enjoyed our stay and we hope we can return soon.

Carl and Chris could not have done any more for us on our stay! They arranged a very good to trip to Cape Wrath lighthouse even though we were there out of season, and had all the relevant information about things to do in the immediate area.
The chef was incredibly willing to help my partner who needs a gluten free diet, not least of all by adapting a menu choice to produce a delicious meal at short notice late one evening.
We can only reiterate how helpful all the staff were, and how we would thoroughly recommend the Bettyhill Hotel to anyone planning a trip to the north of Scotland.

I stayed at the Bettyhill Hotel during April and May 2013 for 7 weeks whilst away on business. This was the first time that i had stayed at this property. On arrival at the hotel it was noted that works were being carried out on the exterior of the property with scaffolding erected along the western elevation and painting was underway. I proceeded into the hotel where i was greeted by Carl the owner and shown to my room by Chris, the owner's Son. It appeared that the room had just been renovated. It was very roomy, modern, warm and comfortable. Similarly the en-suite bathroom was the same and had a lovely power shower. The view from the front bedroom window of the beach and sea was stunning. The hotel serves bar meals which are very nice and reasonably priced and also meals in their newly refurbished restaurant which similarly are very nice. The restaurant is also north facing with stunning views of the adjacent coastline. Breakfast is served each morning from 7am in the restaurant where you can enjoy the delights of a full cooked breakfast whilst admiring the stunning views. Unfortunately during my stay i was required to leave earlier than 7am in the mornings, however Carl ensured that i did not go without breakfast. A continental type breakfast room was set up with fridge, kettle and toaster, where i could enjoy some cereal, toast, croissants and a cuppa. At nights the hotel has a bar area to the rear of the property which has both a pool table and darts board to keep you entertained. I spent many a night being entertained by the hotel staff playing darts and pool. I would like to thank all of the staff for making my 7 weeks enjoyable. A big thankyou to Carl, Chris, Jack, Jimmy, Becca and Ruby the cat. Although there are still some renovations being carried out on this hotel i would not let this put you off spending some time there.

Room Tip: Stayed in rooms 12 and room 3 during my stay. The rooms were both facing north with stunning views...

3 years ago we stopped at the Bettyhill for lunch. Although the food was good and the view from the dining room window was breathtaking, the hotel itself was in disparate need of major TLC!! The hotel was sold and a major overhaul started by the new owner. I had read some of the reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to book a room for 1 night.

When we arrived we were greeted by a chap repairing the wall outside, this later transpired to be the new owner!!! Carl's son Chris showed us upstairs and gave us the choice of 2 rooms, both were freshly decorated with new carpets etc, room 1 was huge and had both a side and front view to the bay, the only drawback was it didn't have an ensuite but a shower room across the hall, this was solely for the use of room 1 guests though. We chose room 2, which again was newly decorated and it had its own ensuite .

The view from the window was stunning, and the sunset that night was amazing. We ate in the bar that evening and the food was very good, and very reasonably priced.

Carl and his team made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel is still undergoing some refurbishment and I'm sure once it is all completed it will be the place to stay on the North coast of Scotland.

It's not 5 star, but if you are looking for affordable comfort with a great host then Bettyhill is definitely the place to stay.

Room Tip: Any room to the front of the hotel as the views are amazing

Just want to say what a lovely evening we had in the the Bettyhill Hotel Restaurant. Chris, the proprietor's son, opened the newly refurbished restaurant for us as my family was visiting. Jack the chef made our evening with excellent food, and Chris with very good service. Would recommend you try it.
