We stayed 2 nights in may 2014 at Lesleys B@B and you can´t find better :) The owner Lesley is the best, the breakfast was outstanding also the dinner. The view from kitchen window is breathtaking. We are coming back for sure.

50 miles from John O'Groats and with hills getting longer and steeper and rain beginning to spot, this turned out to be a wonderful haven at the end of our first day's cycling. We were commencing our 500+ mile ride to Pocklington, York to celebrate Pocklington School's 500th anniversary, rasing money for five charities (details available on the school's website, under Old Pocklingtonians). Two other cyclists were staying there the same night - Nigel and Jilly Rumble - who were end-to-ending and raising funds for Fight-for-sight (check out their website if you want to help them); they, too, were at the start of their long journey.
Lesley runs a very neat and tidy set-up, is very friendly and helpful and cooks a really good evening meal as an optional (and recommended) extra, aware of her comparative isolation. The meal, with our fellow guests, was very convivial indeed. The cottage has a fabulous view over meadows and coast and the only concern for a cyclist is the hill you have to climb after her sumptuous breakfast when you set off for the next leg of the journey!

We were starting to run out of accommodation options when driving west from Thurso and decided to follow a sign advertising a b&b. Unfortunately when we finally located the place there was no room at the inn but the owner very kindly rang around to see if she could find someone to take us in. (Scottish hospitality and helpfulness to the fore) So thanks to her we arrived at Farr Cottage (and without directions I doubt we'd ever have found it by ourselves first time around) and were warmly welcomed by Lesley - a lady who diplomatically managed to convey the idea that the only thing that remained to make her day perfect was meeting two tired and slightly grumpy Australians (ok, only one was grumpy, the other was my husband) Whipping up a most welcome cuppa, Lesley quickly had me laughing and we were soon settled into a small but very comfortable room. Since it was late in the tourist season, and because there isn't much available locally as a dining option, Lesley kindly offered to cook a meal for us - and wow, how good was that chicken dish. Lesley also offered us the use of her computer so that we could check some details I'd left at home; in every way she made us comfortable and feeling as if we'd known one another for years. The cottage is situated in a very quiet region with the most heavenly views right down the valley to the sea and we'd most certainly stay there again. I almost forgot to mention the bathroom. In such a small cottage we'd anticipated sharing a bathroom but Lesley and her builder have cleverly managed to fit an en-suite style bathroom for each of the two bedrooms upstairs - a nice touch for sure.

We stayed at Farr Cottage when cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats. It was excellent. We really appreciated Lesley's kindness in airing our clothes and the dinner she made for us was the best of our whole trip.

You really must stay here. Farr Cottage is beautifully clean and has everything you would expect from a good B&B. However, what makes it really special is the welcome afforded by its owner, Lesley. Nothing is too much trouble. Her cooking puts most restaurants to shame. For location, food and hospitality I can't imagine that you can beat it.

Incidentally, I don't think Lesley can guarantee it, but the company of guests over dinner (who occupied her only other room) was also a bonus.

Thanks for a memorable short stay.
