“Hidden Treasure”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

We came across The Shorehouse on our last visit back in 2008 but only had time on that occasion for a quick snack as we had walked over from Scourie and had to return there, however we vowed we would return the next time we were in the area.
We finally returned at the end of Sept 2012, mid week and quite late in the day so were the only people there. However our greeting was warm and friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble, the half lobster was fantastic as was the smoked salmon salad with boiled potatoes in butter. Views out to Handa from the conservatory/dining room of this tiny family run restaurant are stunning. The menu all freshly caught by the family was limited as could only be expected so late in the season (The ferry to Handa had stopped running for the winter so there is no reason for tourists to go there).
We have no hesitation in recommending The Shorehouse to anyone. We will return.

“Fresh seafood and an excellent location.”
Reviewed September 24, 2012 via mobile

We would have to agree with most of the previous reviewers. We came across this restaurant by accident whilst exploring the North West Highland coast. What a find, the views across to Handa Island nature reserve are stunning, the restaurant conservatory clean airy and inviting and the food was as fresh as anywhere we have encountered in the UK. We visited midweek in mid September and every table was full which probably says much for word of mouth and reputation. The menu is mostly seafood with lobster or fresh crab salads served with potatoes in butter or sweet soused herring with salad and brown bread and butter......lovely. Although remote, if you are anywhere near this area you must drop in.

“Completely unexpected”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

What a fantastic and unexpected find, this lovely small restaurent in this beautiful bay. Only 6 tables, but on a random midweek lunch time in September they were all full, considering this is so out of the way, a testament to the quality of the food. Fresh fish, really well presented and and delicious. I just wish a return visit wasn't so difficult to bring off given its remote location! Yes the service is a little slow, but it's efficient and friendly, who wants to rush when the location and views are so lovely?! Highly recommend you eat here if you are passing anywhere nearby.

“Four explore Handa Island”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We could not wait to go back to this little sea food restaurant, after our visit to Handa Island, and it did not dissappoint.Although the service was a little slow to begin with (we had to wait quite some time before our order was taken, although after this it was very good) As usual the sea food was superb and everything was so fresh. A good selection of wines to chose from and reasonably priced. The smoked Mackerel was to die for as were the lovely potted shrimp on hot buttered toast. This is a little gem of a restaurant one not to miss, to top it all we had fantastic weather and that made the whole bay look absolutely magical, after our meal we all retired to a grassy mound overlooking the bay and had a lovely two hours relaxing in the sun. That day there was a basking shark around the harbour inlet, but unfortunately we were not lucky enough to see it, we will certainly be back, soon hopefully. Many thanks.
