“Excellent room and service - book restaurant and treatments well in advance”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

My wife booked a weekend here for me as a birthday treat, and decided to go for one of the suites.

The room was huge, had two desks, a table and chairs, sofa, coffee table, and an enormous 6ft bed. The bathroom had a large bath and a walk-in shower. A little disappointed with the water pressure which meant the overhead and body level jets were fairly ineffective, but a minor gripe.

Soundproofing seemed very good, probably as well given the hen party taking place down the corridor!

The small filter coffee maker was a real boon, and you can get a proper jug of milk via room service/reception. There was a small fridge which was stocked with still and sparkling water, and was big enough to keep the milk in and a bottle of wine.

Car park is large, but during popular golfing times still gets crowded. There are electrical charging points for electric cars.

Check-in was quick, even though a large party has just arrived before us.

We had hoped to eat in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, but being popular with locals, even ringing a few days before arrival the restaurant was fully booked. If you want to eat there, call well in advance. We had room service on the Saturday, which was delivered quickly and was very good. We ate in the bar on the Sunday, when the restaurant was closed, but again the food was good and reasonably priced. First choice of wine was unavailable, and second choice took a while to arrive as the bar-person didn’t have the necessary keys! The hotel was very quiet on Sunday evening and there seemed to be few guests.

Breakfast was a buffet, which even on the quiet Monday morning was well stocked and gave a good choice.

The pool changing room is upstairs, which is a little odd. However, the pool and new sauna/steam-room were excellent. The Jacuzzi was a bit ‘foamy’ and was due to be closed for refurbishment. The male changing room was also, apparently, about to be refurbished as well. Towels are provided at the leisure reception and lockers need a £1 coin, which is returned.

We booked a massage, again well in advance, and we were very pleased with the service.

Overall, we were really delighted with the suite room, and impressed with the other facilities. We would be very happy to return.

Room Tip: Suite was excellent; look out for special price upgrades.

83 mixed male/female golfers had a wonderful time at this excellent venue. The facilities, staff, bedrooms and food were all more than we hoped for. As organisers of an event of this size you do not expect to please everyone. However, we have had nothing but praise from everyone for the choice of venue, the friendliness and willingness of the staff from top to bottom to always go out of their way with a warm smile to make sure that everyone was happy. The food and service was first class which is not easy with such large numbers of guests. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, and the golf course set us a good challenge. This hotel is a shining beacon as to how a hotel should be run and puts many pretencious five star hotels to shame. We cannot speak highly enough about how enjoyable our two night stay was and many of our group have already said that they will be returning for more.

Room Tip: We were accomodated in Superior Rooms which were excellent value for money.

Just had a lovely weekend break. Hotel situated in country surroundings but close to motorways for access. Only had standard room but more than adaquate, ample space and lovely bed. Large TV and many little extras which made the difference. Only down side was the shower which was the smallest we have ever had quite difficult if trying to raise legs to wash or bend down to wash feet. The bar was pleasant and all the staff very polite and helpful. Breakfast is buffett style but various options available from the menu to order, we found them well cooked and tasty with a good choice. Although we planned to eat in the main dining room on the first night I found I was not upto a full three course meal so we decided just to have a bar meal. This was the only downside to the weekend. Food was not great, the fish was overcooked and small with only a few frozen chips and for £9.50 quite expensive for what it was, even a few more chips would of made the difference. The fish pie was nice but should of been called salmon pie as not much other fish in it. This meal aside everything else was lovely and we will visit again. We had a walk around the leisure centre which was inviting, but did not use these facilities on this ocassion due to lack of time. We did manage a walk around the garden before leaving and found it quite and relaxing with various seating spread about, would be nice on a warm day to sit out and relax or play tennis or maybe have a game of snooker in the room at the leisure centre. Overall would recommend this hotel and will try to dining room on our next visit.

Room Tip: if wanting a quite room might be worth asking for one at end of corridoor, we were near the entrance...

I thought the best thing about this hotel was the choice of things you could do. There is a golf course; with golf shop and bar; a gym, small swimming pool, sauna, large jacuzzi and a very good choice of spa treatments; including reflexology which I know from experience isn't available in many hotel spas. I booked 3 spa treatments, all three were enjoyable with the just the right balance of friendly chat and peaceful silence.

The staff we met were in the main very helpful and pleasant; just some of the younger members of staff need to work on their hospitality skills; there were a couple of lads in the gym area that don't seem to have learned yet that a smile goes a long way. The waiting staff at dinner were quite "chatty" with each other which we could overhear, and one young girl couldn't answer a basic question regarding the menu. The reception, housekeeping and breakfast staff were all worthy of a special mention for being extra helpful tho.

Some of the public areas in the older part of the building are in need of refurbishment, especially the recreation area (Florida room & toilets especially).

I had upgraded to an executive suite so expected it to look like the picture on the website; a large room with bed and sitting area ; however our room was like the picure of the superior room, with a seperate walled off sitting area with a sofa bed. The bath was HUGE and the seperate shower very spacious with adequate water pressure.

I had booked us on a D B & B offer , but after seeing the evening meal menu wished I hadn't as there wasn't one dish on the menu that I liked, in the end I paid a supplement to have the steak. The bread rolls came with margerine rather than butter so went uneaten. The steak was PERFECTLY cooked, but the starter, sweet and rest of the main was" just ok", as was the service. .

Breakfast was a bit of a mix; some of the items looked like they'd been sat there hours (dried beans, plastic eggs) however the waiting staff did offer to get fresh eggs without being prompted. The fruit (melon / pineapple) was fresh and tasty.

In summary, I enjoyed the time we spent here and would stay again on B&B basis in a standard room.

We have a wedding booked in sept 2013.I phoned the Hotel to discuss the wine with the Manager.I explained that your wine menu was limited and expensive and we would like to bring some wine.I asked if we could do anything with the corkage charge of £7.00 per bottle.I said it would be a nice gesture for the bride and Groom if you could move on the price to at least £5.00.But The manger who was nice wasn't going to budge not even £0.50 off.Boo !! so mean when you will make so much money out of the guests on the friday and Saturday night.Oh well !! Bit dissapointed. Rod the Best Man.
