“Bijoux cottage in tranquil rural spot”

We decided we really should take our dog to France, and found this to be an ideal location at around 4 hours drive from the Chunnel. We were made very welcome by Catherine, who provided us with lots of useful information (including which vet to go to for the mandatory worming tablets). The cottage is set in pleasant rolling countryside within range of a number of small towns. We preferred Argentan, with reasonable shopping and good cafes. We also enjoyed trips to Honfleur and to the seaside at Merville. The cottage is small but fine for two plus dog. Gardens are lovely. We hope to return some time.

“Lovely, tranquil little gite - well worth a visit”
Reviewed October 3, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

Looks much larger on the photographs than in real life but we were delighted to find that it is incredibly comfortable and has it's own garden within the grounds of the main property. The owner showed us all the fresh herbs in the garden that we were welcome to help ourselves to, along with all you can eat apples and pears. Kitchen area is small but has everything you could possibly need (even a terrific milk frother).

The bed is extremely comfortable - we slept better than ever - and there is no light/noise pollution to speak of.

The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable about where to eat. Most of the little surrounding towns had market days - we would go into the market each day to buy what we need. Livarot seems to be the best but we found the others charming and full of lovely produce - and a fraction of the price that we would pay in the UK.

If you are taking dogs with you from the UK the owner can arrange an appointment with her veterinarian for the pre return checks & worming tablets. We were very impressed with the practice that we went to. And so much cheaper than London!

We very much enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. Local towns are very quiet at night so take some DVD's if you want entertainment in the evening.

“Absolutely superb.”
Reviewed September 25, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

A most delightful gite and a wonderful hostess and her companions Flambeau, Arielle, and Eloi. We had a magic weeks holiday very restful lovely countryside. Catherine was very helpful as our French is hopeless and she was a mine of information. Nearly took Flambeau home. Very highly recommended and the directions easy to follow with lots of signposts as one gets near to La Hoguette. Do not get confused with the village of the same name a little way south.

“Wonderful week in Normandy.”
Reviewed May 16, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We wife and I had a lovely stay at La Hoguette. Catherine was very gracious and made us feel very welcome. The gite provided us a nice place to call home for the week which was within easy driving distance to many places in Normandy.

“Beautiful location to relax and enjoy this part of France!”
Reviewed October 18, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this location. The cottage is very comfortable, and the scenery is beautiful. We stayed for a full week, and were able to make wonderful day trips to all of the sites that we wanted to visit. And our host was very gracious and helpful. We would highly recommend this location.

“A True Gem in the Beautiful Pay ;Auge Region of Normandy”
Reviewed October 2, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

La Hoquette is located in a beautiful region of diary farms, apple orchards and scattered tiny villages. Yet it is within a 10 minute drive from the market towns of St. Pierre sur Dives and Livarot, both having all the services for gas, groceries and eateries. The region around La Hoguette has the kind of appeal that has brought former guests back to purchase property nearby. The Cottage at La Hoguette, a restored half-timbered farm building, is invitingly clean and cosy and has all the comforts of home. During our stay we were able to take short day trips to Bayeau and its famous Conquest Tapestry, to the Normandy D-Day beaches and to old harbor towns such as Honfleur. We also took a full day to visit Mont St Michel on its lofty island perch. However, what made our stay extra special was the friendly and outgoing hospitality of our hostess Catherine who made us feel so much like part of the family. We also enjoyed interacting with her three dogs, several cats and 2 ponies all of whom she rescued from various animal shelters. Long exercise-walks with Catherine and her two ponies became a treasured part of our evening routine.
